Windows XP 為什麼叫 XP，而不叫 EXP？

XP 應該是 experience 吧，那麼為什麼沒有取前三個字母？

It』s pretty simple. Since the letter X alone is pronounced /eks/ (exactly the same sound as ex), E is not necessitated before X. That is, X and ex have the same sound /eks/.

In English, we conventionally use X as the abbreviation for experience. For example, UX stands for user experience. Interestingly, XP originally stands for experience point(s) in video games.

However, if Microsoft had made its OS known as Windows X, it might have been misinterpreted as Windows Ten. That』s probably why the name is now stylized as Windows XP.

ex 簡寫為 X 是約定俗成的傳統，讀音上的原因也的確是有的；雖然也並不是所有人都遵守這個傳統——比方說 Internet Explorer 大家就習慣俗稱為 IE 而非 IX
