Students are engaged and open-minded—but discerning—readers and listeners. They work diligently to understand precisely what an author or speaker is saying, but they also question an author』s or speaker』s assumptions and premises and assess the veracity of claims and the soundness of reasoning.

作為讀者和聽話人，學生思維開拓，能夠切身參與其中，又具有一定的辨識能力。力求精準理解作者或說話人所表達的內容，但是同時也能對作者或說話人的假設和前提持質疑態度，對說法的真實性和論證的可靠性進行評估。
