• I was certain he would come.
• It was six in the afternoon. The sun would soon set.

was / were going to do (be)

①過去本打算，但沒做成

• ---- Tom, you didnt come to the party last night. ---- I was going to, but I suddenly remembered I had homework to do.

②跡象表明（賓從）

• I thought it was going to rain.

was / were to do

①計劃要做，執行與否未知

• I felt nervous because I was soon to go abroad for the first time.

②命中注定

• They said goodbye, not knowing that they were never to meet again.

was / were to have done 未曾實現的計劃

• We were to have invited you, but you were on your business trip.

was / were about to do… (when…)

=was / were on the point of… (when…)正要…（就…）

• I saw the soup was about to boil over, so I turned the gas off.
• I was about to go to bed when I heard a knock on the door.
