「我們不一樣」和chalk and cheese有什麼關係？
在周二的"專家答問"欄目里張欣老師與大家聊了far and between（彼此距離很遠，完全不相干的事）。其實，還有一些英語習語也能很地道地描述兩個人完全不同，或者兩件事毫不相干的狀況。
例如，你可以用distinct一詞，意思是「明顯不同的，差別明顯的「。如果想要強調的話，可以在前面加上quite/strikingly/sharply/entirely這些強調程度的副詞。
不過，用一些習語，則更能顯得地道。如以下這幾個：
1、be another/a different kettle of fish 截然不同；完全兩回事
kettle是「燒水壺」的意思，put the kettle on就是開始燒水。
而kettle of fish是用來煮魚的水壺，這就很格格不入了。
例句：
Having knowledge is one thing but being able to communicate it to others is another kettle of fish.
擁有知識是一回事，但能夠傳授給別人就完全是另一回事了。
She"s not nervous about speaking to a lot of people, but speaking to a TV camera is a different kettle of fish.
她在許多人面前講話都不緊張, 但在電視攝影機前面講話就完全是兩回事了.
2、be a far cry from sth 和…相去甚遠，與…大相徑庭
2008年上映的恐怖電影《孤島驚魂》，英語名字就是Far Cry。
far cry可以形容遙遠的距離(或時間)，也形容大不相同的東西。
例句：
This flat is a far cry from the house they had before.
這間公寓和他們以前住的房子相去甚遠。
It was all a far cry from those halcyon days in 1990, when he won three tournaments on the European tour.
這和1990年的那些美好時光大不相同，當時他在歐洲巡迴賽中贏得了3場錦標賽。
3、be like chalk and cheese
chalk是粉筆，cheese是乳酪，這兩個從本質上就沒有任何相同之處。所以形容「（個性）截然不同；迥異」。
例句：
My brother and I are like chalk and cheese.
我哥哥和我截然不同。
4、be worlds apart
如果你說你和某人根本就是來自兩個不同的世界，那你想表達的就是你和他是完全不同的。
be worlds apart就形容「完全相反；截然不同」
They are worlds apart in their political views.
他們的政治觀點截然相反。
The novel is worlds apart from his academic writings.
這本小說和他的學術著作截然不同。
或者可以說poles apart，pole的意思是（地球的）極（點）。
這個習語有種南轅北轍的意思，也譯為「截然相反，大相徑庭」。

不過，英語單詞的world也不盡然會讓人感覺到天涯海角各一邊。也有一些讓人有很「溫軟」的感覺，如以下幾個習語：
do sb the world of good 使某人感到更健康或更高興
例句：
We had a week away in the sun and it"s done us both the world of good.
我們到了別處度假一個星期，盡情享受陽光，這對我倆的身心都十分有益。
for all the world 完全
例句：
She sounds for all the world like her mother on the phone.
她的聲音在電話里聽起來和她媽媽的聲音完全一樣。
go/come down in the world 潦倒；落泊
例句：
They used to live in a big house with lots of servants, but they"ve come down in the world since then.
他們曾經住在一所大房子里，僕役成群，可後來家道中落了。
make a world of difference 大大提高，使…有很大提高
例句：
A little sympathy makes a world of difference to someone who"s been badly treated.
對於那些遭到虐待的人來說，一點點同情心就會讓他們覺得備受關愛。
not for the world 不管怎樣都不，無論如何都不
例句：
If I took that job I"d have to leave the kids and I wouldn"t do that for the world.

the world and his wife （尤指某一時間、某一地點的）所有的人，各色人等
例句：
It"s going to be quite a party - the world and his wife will be there.

the world is sb"s oyster （某人）可以隨心所欲，（某人）可以為所欲為
例句：
You"re young and healthy and you have no commitments - the world is your oyster.
你年輕、健康，並且沒有什麼負擔——可以隨心所欲地做你想做的事。
out of this world 極好的；非常棒的
例句：
What a restaurant - the food was out of this world!
多好的餐館呀——飯菜真是棒極了！
