如何在小作文中寫出一句流暢簡介又有力的句子想必是很多同學的心頭痛。找了信息點，解析了文章脈絡，卻空對著dot points不知如何組織語言，看著時間一份一秒流逝干著急。

這篇文章帶你走近今日科學—平行結構的使用

把作者的所思所想（development of idea）通過文字呈現作為寫作的終極目的，因此無論什麼文體以及語言的寫作，最根本的即幫助讀者理解。

那麼在PTE中，所謂讀者就是評分系統 （Scoring Mechanism）了。

讓我們來快速複習一下小作文的評分標準：

正確的語法 (correct grammatical structure) grammar

簡單來說，對於電腦來說正確文法句型即可，並不需要花哨的長難句。

那麼如何寫出正確的平行結構呢？

先來看一個例子：

正確: in spring, summer, or in winter

錯誤: in spring, summer or winter

看出來這裡使用的平行結構法則了嗎？

冠詞或者介詞所帶的所有詞或片語

要麼在結構的開始使用一次

或者在每一個片語以及短語的開頭全部使用。

讓我們再來看幾個例子，加深一下理解！

錯誤: a time not for words, but action.

正確 : a time not for words, but for action.

錯誤: the study found that most welfare recipients wanted to work rather than handouts.

正確 : the study found that most welfare recipients wanted to work rather than to accept handouts.

正確 : the study found that most welfare recipients wanted work rather than handouts.

錯誤: a Greek cyclist broke the worlds record for human flight neither with a boost nor a motor.

正確: a Greek cyclist broke the worlds record for human flight with neither a boost nor a motor.

錯誤: whether to live a rich life or to die rich is a question.

正確: whether to live rich or to die rich is a question.

一些日常使用的連接詞反而是語法錯誤的高發區，(eg: either, or; neither nor) 注意到了么？

細節決定成敗, 同學們快來練習下 「I really like this movie, which was why I bought it.」 這句話錯在哪？

那麼什麼是平行結構（parallelism）？

" ... parallelism, the use of similar grammatical structures for similar elements of meaning within a sentence or among sentences."

英文的平行結構是指當需要連接兩個對等的詞和對等的結構。

簡單來說， 常見的並列連接詞 and, but, as well as, not only..but also.. 等以及從屬連詞than 都可以使用。

事實上一句有力的平行結構在英文寫作中可以有效的鋪陳以及推進作者的觀點。

我們來對比一下以下兩種寫法：

- The conference was helpful which contained a lot of information.

- The conference was both helpful and informative.

雖然第一句強烈滿足了作者湊字數的願望，但第二種寫法才是更簡潔凝練的句子。

那麼這如此簡單實用的文法，如何快速上手呢

讓我們從兩者並列的平行結構開始

Meet success like a gentleman and disaster like a man.

兩者並列顯示不出你的寫作水平？ 那來看看下面這句對比句：

- the total expense of camping can be far less than the hotels.

同學們有看出什麼問題么？

在這句句子中形成對比的應該為露營支出與酒店開銷，

而在這句的表達中變為了支出與賓館。

正確的寫法：

- the total expense can be far less than that of hotels.

那麼讓我們來看看平行結構在寫作中的實際運用

例：

Can young people teach older people?

- Young people can update knowledge about new technologies for the elders, share attitudes towards life with them and bring freshness into their lives.

這句話使用了三個並列的動賓結構，圍繞young people 將三個分論點以平行結構的方式概括，體現了全文邏輯的完整性。

最後讓我們來欣賞一句來自肯尼迪就職演說中的經典名句吧
