關於基本句型的幾個常見問題的總結

問題一

enable/allow somebody to do something,

後面一般都是接比較正面的東西。

錯誤的例子：

smoking enables people to suffer from lung disease. （生病不是什麼好事）

改正：

smoking is responsible for lung disease.

問題二

make it possible/ easy for somebody to do something,

後面一般都是接比較正面的東西

錯誤的例子：

advertisements make it possible for people to squander money. (浪費錢不是什麼好事)

問題三

provide somebody with opportunities to do something,

後面一般都是接比較正面的東西

錯誤的例子：

錯誤的例子：the lack of education provides young people with opportunities to drop out of school. (退學是不好的事情)

問題四

it is easy for somebody to do something

是指做一個事情很「簡單」，不是指「有可能」做一個事情。

錯誤的例子：

it is easy for young people to watch TV long hours. (長時間看電視不是什麼簡單的事情)

改正：

many young people are likely to watch TV long hours.

問題五

pose a threat to, give importance to, cause damage to, have a beneficial effect on, play a vital role in

這些短語的最後一個詞都是介詞，一般加名詞比較多，很少加動名詞，加動詞肯定錯。

錯誤的例子：

Education has a beneficial effect on finding good jobs.

改正：

education has a beneficial effect on one』s job prospect.

問題六

很多同學都喜歡用make, let，其實都不是很恰當，MAKE很多時候用強迫的意思，LET是允許的意思，可以使用enable, allow 替換。

問題七

人沒有難易之分, people are easy 或者people are difficult to …都是錯的

錯誤的例子：

people without computer literacy are hard to seek employment.

改正：

It is difficult for people without computer literacy to find employment

錯誤的例子：

people with computer skills can be easy to find jobs.

改正：

people with computer skills can find jobs easily.

問題八

it makes it possible to do something也是錯的

問題九

something is helpful to do something or something is beneficial/important/useful to do something 都是錯的。

因為只有it is important to do something或者 something is important to something

大家喜歡寫something is important to do something是因為這是中文的直譯

可以改成something can help somebody do something.

錯誤的翻譯：

旅遊業有助於提高人們的生活。

Tourism is helpful to improve people』s living standards.

改正：

Tourism can help improve people』s living standards.

問題十

it is important to do something 的意思「做什麼事情很重要」，而不是表示「前面某事對這個事情很重要」

如果什麼東西對什麼重要，是something is important to something.

舉例：

It is important to improve young people』s job skills. These skills are important to their job prospect.

注意翻譯：提高年輕人的工作技能是重要的。這些技能對他們的工作前景很重要。

前者是一個建議，後者是一個因果關係。

問題十一

lead to, result in 後面只能加名詞，不能加動詞，動名詞也很少見。

錯誤的例子：

Poor education can lead to children behave badly (這是個句子).

改正：

Poor education can lead to behavioural problems.

問題十二

it is helpful to do something 並不是「什麼東西有助於做什麼」的意思

錯誤的例子：

education is helpful to improve young people』s job prospect.

改正：

education can help improve young people』s job prospect.

或者 Education is helpful in improving young people』s job prospect.
