Hello everyone! u/SilverScorpion00008 here, bringing you the ninth progress report on Bulgaria! Unfortunately we did have a much larger PR planned but it has been delayed and replaced with this smaller one. However we do hope you still enjoy what we bring to you this Saturday. Please remember everything here is very WIP and subject to change as the mod develops. Feel free to discuss the lore or ask questions in the comments.

With the End of the Guerra Mondiale Bulgaria found itself the master of the Balkans and with control over all the lands it had dreamt to control. However, with the declining situation in Germany due to over extension, the Bulgarian government started drifting away from the German sphere, ultimately leading to the previous strong ties vanishing. With the collapse of Austria-Hungary in the north, the ideals of socialism spread across the Balkans. Fearing further socialist growth, the Liberal party decided to change their economic policy to favor industrialization, hoping to appease the working class. However the economy was unable to adapt to the sudden change, leading to the economy taking damage. Due to this Bulgaria saw the conservative Bulgarian Agrarian National Union and the Utopianist Bulgarian Social Democratic Workers Party gaining popularity amongst the workers.

However, many in the government still support Tsar Ferdinand I, as he had been a symbol of the might of the Bulgarian people ever since the First Balkan war. Now, in 1936, Bulgaria finds itself surrounded by enemies. Relations with the Ottoman Empire have grown bitter, revanchist elements in Serbia, Greece and the former Romanian states are growing. The only ally Bulgaria has in its time of need is in Albania, who seeks to align with Bulgaria in hopes of surviving a Serbian-Greek Alliance aimed to destroy their nation.

The Bulgarian Military：

The Bulgarian military has seen lots of action since the start of the century, fighting in the Balkan Wars and in the Guerra Mondiale. The Bulgarian military is highly experienced; however due to these wars the military has grown a habit of having a large budget, which has been threatening the already weak economy. If the military budget was cut the economy could quickly find itself gaining strength, however with a slashed budget the military would be weak in a Fourth Balkan war.

Having been weakened by industrialization, the Bulgarian economy is suffering badly. Several proposals have reached the government, pointing to a path of returning to agrarianism, or assist industrialization for it to become a gift rather then a burden. However the economy will still have a hard time recovering with the heavy military budget. Discussions between whether to cut the budget or not are rampant within the government with people stating that the military needs the money to maintain hegemony and others stating that the economy matters more. Other proposals have been made to increase trade with Russia and to further the German alliance.

Bulgaria』s main goal is to maintain the hegemony it has established in the Balkans. The Albanians, having been greatly rewarded by the war and wish to align with Bulgaria; however, many Albanians see Bulgaria as a threat to their freedom. Bulgaria also wishes to secure its border with Asia, this can mean either a reconciliation with the Ottoman Empire or an invasion to seize the straits. Many in Bulgaria also seek to strengthen ties to Germany and to join Mitteleuropa to strengthen the Bulgarian economy.
