英文名的趨勢是很微妙的。每年英語國家都會愛上一個名字或者一種類型的名字，趨勢就這麼形成了。趨勢形成的原因可能是：一個名人生了孩子，最近一部著名的電視劇里的名字。名字趨勢的形成沒有固定的原則，很難預測下一輪將會流行哪些名字，儘管如此，人們還是嘗試去預測。

Name trends can be tricky. Every year people in English speaking countries just fall in love with a name or a type of name, and a trend is created. It can happen because a celebrity used it for his/her baby, because a name was on a famous TV series, but there are no rules to say how a specific trend will appear. Its hard to predict what the next trend will be, even though people try to do it.

現在一些流行的趨勢是女孩名字以-ella結尾，比如 Isabella.

Some trends that are hot right now are girls names ending in -ella, like Isabella.

以及男孩名字以-o結尾，比如Milo 和 Theo.

Boys names ending in -o, like Milo and Theo.

There is also a trend to choose nature, earthy names, like Willow and Sage, and an ongoing trend of taking boys names and using them for girls. There is even a (kind of crazy) food trend: the name Kale just entered the Top 1000 in 2014.

What are the problems with trends?

首先，不是所有的趨勢都由美麗的名字組成；一些過於獨特，一些又太瘋狂。這有一些好的趨勢，可以帶來有趣的選擇，但也不一定總是這樣。另外一點，當一種趨勢出現的時候，成千上萬的人會使用符合這種趨勢的特殊的名字或形式，所以它們迅速地變得過度使用和普遍的名字。想想，在同一時期出生的Sophias都到上學的年紀時，班上有一半的人都叫Sophia。

First, not all of them are made of pretty names; some of them are too unique and some are just crazy. There are some nice trends that bring interesting options, but that doesnt always happen.Other than that, when a trend comes up, there are thousands of people who use that specific name or style, so they rapidly become overused and common. Think about it, in a few years when all the Sophias that were recently born start going to school in the US, half the class will have the same name.

所以取名專家的觀點是：你不應該僅僅因為是現在的流行趨勢而選擇一個英文名。

What is our opinion about trends?You shouldnt pick an English name just because it is trendy or popular right now.

想想，你的名字是一直跟隨你剩下生命的東西；那麼這個名字是不是今年（2018年）的趨勢其實真的完全不重要，對吧？ 沒有必要過於被趨勢所影響，只要選擇你喜歡的東西，在說英語國家能被接受，符合你的個性；長期而言你會很開心使用你的名字！

Think about it, your name is something that is suppose to follow you for the rest of your life; it doesnt really matter what the trends were in this year, right? There is no need to be too influenced by trends. Just go with something that you like, that is acceptable in English speaking countries and that matches your personality; thats the way for you to be happy with your name in the long run!
