這個百武晴吉的名字應該叫二百五晴吉，原因無他，面對100米外美軍一個團的陸站隊機槍陣地，他居然下令密集隊形上刺刀衝鋒———結果17師團一戰橫屍1.1萬。百武晴吉本人也死了，從此瓜島日軍陸軍一蹶不振，只能依靠海軍炮轟和運送給養，被拖進了山本五十六最擔心的消耗戰。

話說1942年11月底，瓜島戰役如火如荼，看著安德森機場上的飛機炸自己的補給線，山本五十六再也坐不住了，叫栗田帶著金剛、真名兩條戰列艦，外加一個驅逐戰隊(1條輕巡，9條驅逐)，去夜襲機場，而且還給他偷成了。500多發炮彈砸過去，機場損失慘重，而美國人在那裡的海軍力量，就是4條魚雷艇。看陸站隊兄弟有難，魚雷艇馬上出擊，打定主意寧為玉碎不為瓦全。誰曉得栗田聽手下聽說發現魚雷艇，馬上帶著艦隊開到30節跑路了，就留下一個炸了一半的機場擺在那裡。美國人修了幾天，還是把機場修好了。而且從那以後，日軍再沒有這樣好的機會炮轟瓜島機場，從此決定了瓜島戰役日軍的失敗。

1945年的日本日暮途窮，航母全軍覆沒，戰列艦中間能動的只有大和號了，日本海軍部打算把大和號戰列艦作為本土防禦的浮動炮台使用。應該說，這個辦法還是可以的(日本本土，有自殺飛機和戰鬥機掩護)。誰曉得軍令部一反戰初「不到危機關頭不準動大和」的命令，要讓大和號「單挑美國第五艦隊」———說白了就相當於送死，海軍部胳膊牛不過大腿，只好眼睜睜的看著在軍令部歇斯底里的命令下，大和號在11條航空母艦，300多架飛機的輪番轟炸下，460主炮一炮沒發就沉進了太平洋。
