我們能理解的世界以及我們不能理解的世界
媽媽的子宮裡有兩個胎兒，一個問另一個說，「你相信我們出生後還會有生命嗎？」
另一個回答說，「當然。你怎麼會問這樣的問題呢？出生後一定有些什麼事情在等待著我們，也許我們在這裡就是為將來我們會怎樣做準備呢！」
「無稽之談！」第一個堅定地說，「出生後根本沒有生命。你說有，那你能描述一下那生命的樣式嗎？」
第二個回答說，「我不知道。但相比這裡，肯定會有更多的光，也許我們會用腿走路，用嘴吃東西。也許我們會有其他現在還不理解的感知。」
第一個接著說，「這是荒謬的。走路根本不可能。用嘴吃飯？更是可笑之至。臍帶已經供應我們足夠的營養和我們所需要的一切東西。但臍帶太短，因此出生後會有生命，這在邏輯上已被完全排除在外。」
第二個堅持說，「嗯，我想應該有些什麼東西，可能與這裡不一樣。也許我們不再需要這些物質性的臍帶了。」
「荒唐！」第一個回答說，「況且如果出生後真有生命，為什麼從來沒有人從那裡回來言一聲？分娩就是生命的結束。至於分娩以後，除了黑暗、沉寂和遺忘之外乃一無所有，我們將被帶進一片虛無。」
「好吧，我不知道，」第二個繼續說，「但可以肯定的是，我們將會親眼看見媽媽，她必會照顧我們。」
「媽媽？」第一個幾乎尖叫起來，「你真的相信有一位媽媽？太可笑了。如果媽媽存在，那她現在在哪兒呢？」
第二個回答說，「她就在我們身邊，我們被她包圍著，我們屬於她，也正是在她裡面我們才能活著。沒有她這個世界將不會也不可能存在。」
「得了。」第一個堅持說，「我沒有看見她，因此唯一合理的解釋是：她根本就不存在。」
第二個接著回答他說，「有時候，當你靜下心來，當你聚精會神、用心傾聽，你可以感受到媽媽與你同在，你可以聽見她慈愛的聲音，還有她從上而來的親切召喚。」

In a mother』s womb were two babies. One asked the other: 「Do you believe in life after delivery?」The other replied, 「Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.」
「Nonsense,」said the first. 「There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be?」
The second said, 「I don』t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can』t understand now.」
The first replied, 「That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short. Life after delivery is to be logically excluded.」
The second insisted, 「Well I think there is something and maybe it』s different than it is here. Maybe we won』t need this physical cord anymore.」
The first replied, 「Nonsense. And moreover if there is life, then why has no one ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.」
「Well, I don』t know,」 said the second, 「but certainly we will meet Mother and she will take care of us.」
The first replied 「Mother? You actually believe in Mother? That』s laughable. If Mother exists then where is She now?」
The second said, 「She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her this world would not and could not exist.」
Said the first: 「Well I don』t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn』t exist.」
To which the second replied, 「Sometimes, when you』re in silence and you focus and you really listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear her loving voice, calling down from above.」
