2008年北京奧運會，林丹浴火重生，連續擊敗韓國的朴成煥、丹麥的蓋德、隊友陳金。並在決賽中以21比12、21比8狂掃大馬一哥李宗偉，終於圓了奧運金牌夢，2012年奧運會，林丹先抑後揚，在落後一局的情況下逆轉獲勝，再次戰勝李宗偉，也成為史上首個衛冕奧運會羽毛球男單項目的選手。
世錦賽：2006年、2007年、2009年、2011年冠軍
2006年世錦賽林丹力克隊友鮑春來，贏得首個世錦賽冠軍頭銜。2007年世錦賽林丹決賽2比0輕取印尼的索尼實現衛冕，2009年世錦賽則是決賽力克陳金，超越天王楊陽，成為世錦賽男單史上首個三連冠！2011年林丹再次書寫歷史，獲得第四座世錦賽男單冠軍。

湯姆斯杯：2004年、2006年、2008年、2010年、2012年冠軍
林丹從2002年不到20歲就開始征戰湯姆斯杯，此後他又作為球隊的中流砥柱連續角逐2004年、2006年、2008年、2010年、2012年湯杯。2002年湯杯林丹作為替補隨隊友贏得銅牌，此後則締造了五連冠傳奇，超越楊陽、趙劍華、熊國寶天王時代的三連冠。
蘇迪曼杯：2005年、2007年、2009年、2011年冠軍
林丹見證了2003年蘇迪曼杯中國隊爆冷輸給韓國屈居亞軍的一幕，此後，林丹作為領軍人物征戰2005年、2007年、2009年、2011年蘇杯，幫助國羽實現四連冠，超級丹在這三屆蘇杯鮮有失手，除了2007年蘇杯一場無關痛癢的小組賽倒在大馬選手李宗偉拍下，其它所有場次都高歌猛進。

亞錦賽歷史上國羽共五次折桂，分別是1997年的孫俊、1998年的陳剛、1999年的陳宏、2001年的夏煊澤和2009年的鮑春來，而貴為奧運冠軍的林丹竟然總是與亞錦賽冠軍無緣，陷入「世界冠軍拿不到亞洲冠軍」的怪圈，林丹2010年亞錦賽2比0輕取小師弟世青賽冠軍王睜茗，終於打破了魔咒。
全英賽：2004年、2006年、2007年、2009年、2011年冠軍
林丹在歷史長達百年的「世界第一公開賽」全英賽戰績輝煌，他2004年2比1力挫丹麥老將蓋德奪冠，2006年2比0羞辱韓國悍將李炫一摘金，2007年中國德比2比0完勝陳郁，2009年2比0擒服大馬一哥李宗偉，創造了連續六年全英賽殺進決賽，四次奪得冠軍的驕人紀錄，而且這六年的角逐里超級丹從未輸給過任何國外選手。2010年全英賽林丹儘管被鮑春來擋在四強大門外，必進決賽紀錄終結，但他還保持著外戰100%勝率。2012年再次奪冠，成為全英賽五冠王。
