今天我們的樓更高、路更寬，但是我們的性情卻更為急躁，眼光更加狹隘Today we have higher buildings and wider highways, but shorter temperaments and narrower points of view.
我們的花銷越來越多，但是得到的享受越來越少We spend more, but enjoy less.我們的住房更大了，但我們的家庭卻更小了We have bigger houses, but smaller families.我們有了更多的妥協，可時間卻少了We have more compromises, but less time.我們有了更多的知識，但我們的判斷力變差了We have more knowledge, but less judgement.我們有了更多的藥品，可我們的健康更差We have more medicines, but less health.
我們的財富倍增，但我們真正的價值卻在減少We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.我們說得很多，但我們真正的愛太少，怨恨太多We talk much, we love only a little, and we hate too much.
我們往返過遙遠的月球，但卻很難邁出一步去親近我們的左鄰右舍We reached the Moon and came back, but we find it troublesome to cross our own street and meet our neighbors.我們已經征服了太空，卻征服不了我們的內心We have conquered the outer space, but not our inner space.
我們的收入增加了，但我們的道德卻在墮落We have higher income, but less morals.我們的時代更加自由了，而我們的快樂卻越來越少了These are times with more liberty, but less joy.我們的食品更多了，但我們的營養卻越來越少了We have much more food, but less nutrition.
現在每個家庭的收入更高，但離婚卻越來越多了These are the days in which it takes two salaries for each home, but divorces increase.我們有了更完善的住房，但我們有了更多破碎的家庭These are times of finer houses, but more broken homes.
這就是我為什麼要說，讓我們從今天開始That』s why I propose, that as of today,
不要將你的東西為了某一個特別的時刻而預留著，因為你生活的每一天都是那麼特別You do not keep anything for a special occasion, because every day that you live is a special occasion.坐在你家的房屋前廊，多讀一些書，去尋找更多的知識，以讚美的眼光去享受你眼前的風景，不要帶有任何功利的想法Search for knowledge, read more, sit on your front porch and admire the view without paying attention to your needs.
多花點時間與你的家人及朋友在一起，吃你想吃的東西，去你愛去的地方Spend more time with your family and friends, eat your favorite foods, visit the places you love.
生活就是由一連串快樂時光組成的鏈條，我們不僅僅是為了生存而生存Life is a chain of moments of enjoyment; not only about survival.舉起你珍藏的水晶高腳杯吧，不要吝嗇灑上你最好的香水，任何時候你想用就享用吧Use your crystal goblets. Do not save your best perfume, and use it every time you feel you want it.
不要再說諸如這樣的詞：等將來的某一天、某天再說…Remove from your vocabulary phrases like 「one of these days」 and 「someday」.你曾打算有那麼一天再寫的信，請今天就寫吧！Let』s write that letter we thought of writing 「one of these days」.
