1. Do you write letters?
Band 6 answer:
Yes! In fact I love writing letters especially if it』s a friendly letter. On the other hand, I am not that fond of writing formal letters like business letters or application letter.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Friendly letter-is a type of letter written to people who are your relatives, friends, peers, acquaintances or anyone with whom you have a relationship
2. Fond- having feelings of affection for someone or something, or having a liking for an activity
3. Formal letter- is a letter, written in formal language, in the stipulated format, for official purpose
Band 7 answer:
When I was in high school, I wrote a letter to a special someone because we had a brawl. She was my childhood confidant. I just admitted that it was my blunder. So, I sent her an apology letter and fortuitously, she accepted it.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Brawl - a rough or noisy fight or quarrel
2. Confidant - a person, with whom one shares a secret or private matter, trusting them not to repeat it to others
3. Blunder - a stupid or careless mistake
4. Fortuitously - by a lucky chance; fortunately
2. Do you prefer to write letters by hand or to use a computer?
Band 6 answer:
I guess it depends on the letter I am writing. I usually choose to use computer whenever I am about to write important documents for example an endorsement letter to show formality.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Endorsement letter - can be an amendment to a contract or document such as a life insurance policy or a drivers license
2. Formality - formal writing, behavior, etc. that is suitable in important or official situations
Band 7 answer:
I prefer writing letters by hand because I think it』s endearing and ingenious. And the one whom you will write the letter to will know how earnest you are. Though it is more convenient using computers since we will just type it, I』d still go with hand written, it』s much gratifying and truthful.

1. Gratifying - give (someone) pleasure or satisfaction.
2. Endearing - inspiring love or affection.
3. Earnest - resulting from or showing sincere and intense conviction.
4. Ingenious - (of a person) clever, original, and inventive.
3. What do you usually write about?
Band 6 answer:
Usually, every time I write a friendly letter or a greeting card, I write about how I appreciate the person to whom I』m giving the letter

1. Appreciate-to appreciate something also means to be grateful for something
Band 7 answer:
I usually write about how I feel to certain things or circumstances. I suppose that if someone is going through something significant either good or bad, he can write strikingly. For instance, I composed a song for someone long time ago, it sounded very amiable but it was only for my childhood buddy; I just missed her.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Significant - sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy.
2. Strikingly - in a way that attracts attention by reason of being unusual, extreme, or prominent.
3. Amiable - having or displaying a friendly and pleasant manner.
4. Who do usually write to?
Band 6 answer:
I usually write to my best friend who lives next to our city. I prefer to write a letter to her every time I want to surprise her. I』m sure words fail her.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Surprise- an unexpected event, or the feeling caused when something unexpected happens
2. Special occasions-something special that happens seldom or is notable when it does
3. Words fail me - said to emphasize your surprise or shock, especially at something you have just seen or been told
Band 7 answer:
I usually write to my friends especially when we have a problem but only to my closest friends. At times, during momentous events for my parents, I also write a letter to them, showing gratitude and appreciation for all the undying support and supervision they gave me all throughout.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Momentous - (of a decision, event, or change) of great importance or significance, especially in its bearing on the future
2. Gratitude - the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness
3. Undying - (especially of an emotion) lasting forever
4. Supervision - the action of supervising someone or something.
5. Is it hard to think of what to write?
Band 6 answer:
For me, if it is a friendly letter my answer is no; unless someone oblige you to write a letter to someone whom you do not know well.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Oblige- to force or make it expected for someone to do something
Band 7 answer:
For me yes especially when you do not have a motivation. And in writing a letter, you need to sound genuine and bona fide. Also, you have to think of convincing and appropriate words to use in writing.

1. Bona fide – real; sincere
2. Convincing - capable of causing someone to believe that something is true or real
6. How do you feel when you receive a letter?
Band 6 answer:
I like receiving friendly letter. However, somehow when it is a formal letter; example from a company or school I applied for, it is always a mix feeling of excitement and nervousness.
Suggested vocabulary:
1. Excitement-to cause (a particular reaction) in someone
2. Nervousness- the state of being worried or slightly frightened
Band 7 answer:
Actually it depends on the letter I received. If it』s good news, then I will feel over the moon but if it』s a bad news, well, maybe I will feel discomfited. So far, I haven』t had any experience receiving a bad news letter.

1. Discomfited - make (someone) feel uneasy or embarrassed.

7. Do you think people will still write letters in the future?
Band 6 answer:
Absolutely yes, because letter is very essential in every transaction we do particularly formal transactions.

Band 7 answer:
I assume yes, people will still communicate through letters later on because we still mostly use and do the same things we used and did before the computer or the internet. It is a part of our tradition so people will remember it. I really presume that writing letters will still remain and people will still acknowledge especially those with old soul.
