(Photo/People"s Daily)AnOpenDoorsReportonInternationalEducationalExchangereleasedonNov. 17inWashingtonDCfindsthatthenumberofinternationalstudentsatcollegesanduniversitiesintheUnitedStatesincreasedby8percenttoarecordhighof886,052studentsinthe2013/14academicyear.ThisgrowthhaslargelybeendrivenbystudentsfromChina.Chinesestudentenrollmentsincreasedby17percentintotaltomorethan274,000students,andtheincreaseatundergraduatelevelwas18percent.ThereportalsofoundthatmoreAmericanstudentswerechoosingtostudyabroadaswell,andChinahasnowbecomeoneofthefivemostpopularhostdestinationsforAmericanstudents.PeggyBlumenthal,seniorcounselortothepresidentofInstituteofInternationalEducation,toldjournaliststhatthereareseveralreasonsforthegrowingnumberofChinesestudentsstudyingintheUS.Firstofall,therapiddevelopmentoftheChineseeconomyallowsmorefamiliestosupporttheirchildreninstudyingoverseas.Secondly,someChineseparentshopethattheirchildrenwillexperiencelesspressureduringtheirstudiesthanintheacademichot-houseofmainlandChina.SomeChinesestudentshavealreadysetthemselfvesafuturegoalofworkinginthefieldofeconomicandtradecooperationbetweenChinaandUS.Theywantnotonlytostudy,butalsotolearnaboutAmericanculture.TheUSacademicmodelofchoosingyourmajorafteryourfreshmanyearisalsopopularwithforeignstudentssincetheycanhaveadditionaltimetoselecttheirfuturepath.【1】【2】
