　　沙漠(Desert)是指沙質荒漠景觀，地球陸地三分之一是沙漠景觀。一般沙漠荒涼無生命，有「荒沙」之稱。沙漠中由於氣候乾旱,生命並不多。沙漠地域大多是沙灘或沙丘，沙下岩石也經常出現。泥土很稀薄，植物也很少。有些沙漠是鹽灘，完全沒有草木。沙漠一般是風成地貌。沙漠里有時會有可貴的礦床，近代也發現了很多石油儲藏。沙漠少有居民，資源開發也比較容易。沙漠氣候乾燥，它也是考古學家的樂居，可以找到很多人類的文物和更早的化石。
