　　The UK"s Daily Telegraph reported on September 24 that a pollindicates that geographical misconceptions and ignorance of overseasclimate are widespread among adults in the UK and nearly one fifth ofBritish people think it "never" rains in Africa。

　　In a poll conducted by online travel agency Sunshine.co.uk, nearlyhalf of UK residents claimed it "rarely snows" anywhere in France,despite the French Alps attracting millions of skiers each winter, whileone in eight people believed rainforests are found in Greenland。

　　More than 70 percent of respondents incorrectly stated it was"always hot" in the Sahara Desert – in fact temperatures at night oftendrop below freezing – and 17 percent said there were no volcanoes on theCanary Islands。

　　"Having carried out previous research into the misconceptions ofpeople in the UK, we were keen to look into how knowledgeable peoplewere of climates in other countries around the world," said Chris Brown,co-founder of Sunshine.co.uk。

　　In a previous survey in April, 54 percent of British people thoughtTimbuktu was an imaginary place, almost one in ten believed Kazakhstandid not exist, and more than a third claimed that Atlantis could bevisited on a holiday to Greece。

　　In light of the new findings, Brown urged people to "do a bit of research" before venturing abroad。

　　據英國《每日電訊報》24日報道，最新一項調查表明，英國人普遍存著地理知識方面的誤解以及海外氣候知識的缺陷。有近1/5的英國人認為，非洲「從不下雨」。

　　英國在線旅行社Sunshine最近進行了一項調查問卷，結果顯示，儘管法國的阿爾卑斯山每年冬天都吸引成百上千萬的滑雪愛好者前去滑雪，可是幾乎一半的英國人聲稱法國全境「很少下雪」。另外，還有1/8的人認為，(大部分地區常年被冰雪覆蓋的)格陵蘭島上有雨林。

　　超過70%的受訪者錯誤的認為在撒哈拉沙漠總是高溫，而事實上，撒哈拉的夜間溫度經常低於冰點。還有17%的人表示加那利群島上沒有火山。

　　Sunshine的創始人之一克里斯?布朗說：「以前我們曾經做過關於英國人知識缺陷的調查，但是這次我們熱衷於調查英國的『有識之士』是不是在世界其他國家的地理知識上也存在認知缺陷。」

　　今年4月進行的另一項調查還發現，54%的英國人認為廷巴克圖

　　是個虛構的地方，大約1/10的英國人認為哈薩克這個國家並不存在，還有超過三分之一的英國人認為希臘的亞特蘭蒂斯在假期也對外開放。

　　難怪在新的研究出來之後，布朗希望國人在出國旅行前，最好先「做一番研究工作」。
