美國TESOL專業的申請（以哥大為例）

TESOL是"Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" 的縮寫，中文翻譯是"對外英語教學" 。TESOL指英語作為第二語言教學，強調的是教學，而不只是英語本身。

美國TESOL專業申請對背景要求低，不管是從事過教學方面的工作，還是選修過教育學、心理學等課程都可以申請該專業，因此很多美國留學的學生都選擇TESOL專業。

但是對標化成績要求高，英語教學專業要求申請者的托福達到90分左右，名校的要求多在100分以上；雖然部分學校不要求GRE成績，或者沒有明確提出GRE的最低要求，但是根據錄取情況來看，名校被錄取者的GRE的成績多在320以上；同時，多數學校要求申請者的GPA成績達到3.0(4.0滿分)以上，名校的要求多在3.3以上。

美國TESOL主要學習語言學、第二語言教學的經典著作以及課堂實習，學習時間一般是兩年。

其主修課程包括：Educational Linguistics（教育語言學）、Language Diversity and Education（語言多樣性與教育）、Second Language Acquisition（第二語言習得）、Structure of English（英語結構）、Preparation and Evaluation of Language Teaching Materials（語言教學材料的準備與評價）、Language and Politics（語言與政治）、Language and Writing Systems（語言與寫作系統）、General Linguistics（一般語言學）、Language and Education（語言與教育）、Linguistics and Reading（語言學與閱讀）。

美國TESOL專業就業前景可觀，其就業方向主要有：各年齡段英語教師、英語教學研究者、出版社外文圖書編輯等。

Our policy is that all non-native English speakers who did not go to junior high school, high school, and university consecutively at an English-medium school in an English-speaking country MUST take the TOEFL or IELTS.

10、Applicants to the Ed.M. and Ed.D. programs must have an M.A. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or a related field.

11、All students are expected to write and speak in a way that is appropriate to their professional responsibilities. Students having difficulty in achieving these standards will be required to take additional coursework or seek help from the TC Writing Center.
