You see the promise in each of your students, you believe in them even when they can"t believe in themselves, and you work tirelessly to help them be who they were truly meant to be.

No matter where they"re from, how much money their parents have, no matter what they look like, or who they love, or how they worship, or what language they speak at home, they have a place in this country.

If your family doesn"t have much money, I want you to remember that in this country, plenty of folks, including me and my husband, we started out with very little. But with a lot of hard work and a good education, anything is possible, even becoming president. That"s what the American Dream is all about.

I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong. You hear me, young people? Don"t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourselves with a good education, then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of your boundless promise.

When you are struggling and you start thinking about giving up, I want you to remember something that my husband and I have talked about since we first started this journey nearly a decade ago, something that has carried us through every moment in this White House and every moment in our lives. And that is the power of hope, the belief that something better is always possible if you"re willing to work for it and fight for it.

Being your first lady has been the greatest honor of my life, and I hope I"ve made you proud.

跟著雙語君(微信ID:chinadaily_mobile)一起來盤點下。

This garden does more than provide vegetables for the White House kitchen. It"s a centerpiece of Michelle Obama"s "Let"s Move!" campaign to encourage healthier habits, and its designed to inspire Americans to plant their own gardens they can use to grow their own healthy foods.

This is my baby. And hopefully, this will not be the last planting. Hopefully, there will be other administrations who come in and they take up this project and continue to make this a part of the White House tradition.

Obama has been a pronounced and polished advocate for American style, seamlessly moving from custom-made evening gowns to mass-market fare. She has made the fashion industry swoon with her willingness to embrace the work of some of its most eccentric players, such as Thom Browne , and its lesser-known talents, such as Isabel Toledo and Duro Olowu.

Actually, this is a J.Crew ensemble. We ladies, we know J.Crew. When you don"t have time, you gotta click.

Michelle Obama embraced everyone. She embraced black designers, Asian designers, European designers. … She was very democratic in her choice of clothes.

專門研究第一夫人歷史的Allida Black說米歇爾「let the country see her in a way that not only opened the WhiteHouseup, but had a major impact on American culture.」(她的著裝不但讓全國人民看到白宮是開放的,而且對美國文化有著重要影響。)

When Michelle talks, I get a littlemisty

So when people ask me whether being in the White House has changed my husband, I can honestly say that when it comes to his character, and his convictions, and his heart, Barack Obama is still the same man I fell in love with all those years ago.

When they go low, we go high.

I wake up in a house that was built by slaves... I watch my daughters — two beautiful, black young women — head off to school, waving goodbye to their father, the president of the United States, the son of a man from Kenya who came here to America — to America for the same reasons as many of you ... to get an education and improve his prospects in life.

She upstaged everybody, because she spoke from her heart and it rang true to everything the country saw her do for the last eight years.

Likely to do

Rest

休息

President Barack Obama says he"s taking his wife on a "really nice vacation, because she deserves it. She"s beenputting up withme for quite some time."

put up with:忍受、容忍

Write a memoir

Practically all first ladies do. Book publishers would offer millions for the rights to Mrs. Obama"s insider account as the first black woman in the role and as someone who has said little publicly about her private life in the White House. Clinton got an $8 million advance for her 2003memoir, "Living History."

memoir:n.

Set up her family"s new home

Breaking from post-presidential tradition, the Obamas plan to stay in Washington so their 15-year-old daughter, Sasha, can finish high school. Presidents usually leave Washington when they leave office, but the Obamas are renting a home in the wealthy Kalorama neighborhood, near what will be the official residence of Vice President-elect Mike Pence. The Obamas also still own a home in Chicago.

Stick with her initiatives

Mrs. Obama has said she"ll stay engaged in public service and will keep working on the issues she focused on during hertenure. They included childhood obesity and education for girls around the world.

tenure:n.

Could do

Join speaker"s circuit

Her friend, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, said the first lady will be "one of the mostin-demandspeakers" as a result of her convention performance.

Clinton earned millions of dollars giving paid speeches after she stepped down as secretary of state in 2013.

Host a television talk show

Mrs. Obama has demonstrated aknackfor talk-showbanter, and an ease in front of TV cameras. She co-hosted "The View" before the 2008 election and recently co-hosted Ellen DeGeneres" hourlong gabfest.

knack:n.

banter:n.

Serve on corporate boards

She has some experience with corporate America, but she"ll want to choose carefully. Mrs. Obama resigned from the board of a food supplier for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in 2007, shortly after her husband announced his presidentialbid.

bid:n.

Likely won"t do

Run for public office

Both Obamas repeatedly have said she will not run for president.Obama has said she doesn"t have "the patience or theinclination" to be a candidate and is "too sensible to want to be in politics." Mrs. Obama said: "No, no. Not going to do it," when asked about following in her husband"s footsteps.

inclination:n. 愛好

Resume practicing law

Mrs. Obama, a Harvard law school graduate, practiced at a Chicago firm but abandoned a legal career after the deaths of her father and a close friend.
