歌劇院位於澳大利亞新南威爾士州的首府悉尼市貝尼朗岬角，三面臨水，環境開闊。歌劇院聳立在鋼筋混凝土結構的基座上，外觀十分的漂亮，既像飄浮在空中的散開的花瓣，又像三組巨大的貝殼片，最高的貝殼有20層樓那麼高。
