The Giver
I suppose some of you donot like utopianism. Anyway, I certainly respect everyones opinion. To tell the truth, 《The Giver》is the first book(English version) I have ever approached, after watching this book, I have fallen in love in watching English novels.
Through the watching, you can not only get the knowledge, but also, importantly, you can exchange your ideas with the author and explore how the author wanted readers to think and understand in the direction he made beforehand, thats his main purpose of creating this book. And if you felt that way, the author has succeeded.
Every 2 weeks or every month, I will recommend the book Ive just finished watching, then Ill express my opinions on the book. Lets share the books, you can leave your message to me,of course. WELCOME!
Supporting paragraph:
When you read a book, which part of it attracts you a lot? The charming characters, or the moving story lines? Well, when I read this book, I was so in love with the deeply spirit that the author tries to tell us. The book is called <<The Giver>>
The background is based on a futuristic planet on which people live without emotions and vibrant colors. Each family is composed of at most 5 people and they are all in the charge of the committee. Everyone has to position his language and tells the truth when speaking, and after 12, they will be given a job considered as the most appropriate one fits with their talents and potentials. Eventually and unluckily, Jonas, is chosen to be the giver. A giver』s job is receiving the memories of colors and emotions from the former giver, and they can lie as they can』t tell anything about their job to anyone even their parents.
The author tried to put his personal thinking into this novel,he even wiped the violence, the love and any other emotions off this book. And as Jonas received more memories, the more depressed he would feel and more pain he would have to bear. He thought these are the most realistic feelings he had ever experienced, like happiness, the drought and also the starvation. He was tortuous even mortified to realize how the world around him was. So after with thinking twice, he decided to take the baby who was going to be killed away with him. They were trying to escape. Finally, they had done it, but when the moment they got out of the borders, they passed away. All the memories that Jonas had been keeping flew away. People regained the memories they meant to have.
Through this story, I』ve seen Jonas fight for the real freedom though he sacrificed. But in delight, people all have their own memories, then there is no giver. Think why the committee needs a giver. I just suppose people are too fragile to hold on these memories, what if they had memories in the beginning? Then Jonas and the little baby won』t lose their lives, and people』s life would become more colorful. Everyone has to take the responsibility to be stronger both in body and spirit, and never be bitten by the temporary setbacks because no one will pay for your bills. In other words, nothing is impossible for a willing heart. This is what I always believe the author wants to tell us.
