Seventh Moon

Seventh moon Fire does flare;

Ninth moon clothes we prepare.

Eleventh moon winds sigh;

Twelfth moon cold spells come by.

We have no clothes to wear;

A hard winter we"ll bear.

First moon farming tools we make;

Second moon field we rake.

I ask my wife and brood

To south field to send food.

And the guardian says: "Good".

Seventh moon Fire does flare;

Ninth moon clothes we prepare.

Sunny spring comes along;

Orioles sing their song.

The girls baskets carry;

On the way they hurry

To gather mulberry.

Spring days are getting long;

Herb pickers afield throng.

The girls feel sad, alack;

Some lords may sack them and go back.

Seventh moon Fire does flare;

Eighth moon pond reed we pare.

Third moon mulberries cheer atop;

We start to cut and chop.

We lop off branches long

And pick leaves thereamong.

Seventh moon the shrikes cry;

Eighth moon shuttles we ply.

Yellow dye or red dye?

Deep red reddens the air.

The lord"s clothes I prepare.

Fourth moon grass starts to seed;

Fifth, locusts sing to breed.

Eighth moon we reap o"erall;

Tenth moon leaves start to fall.

Eleventh, far and wide,

We hunt for fur and hide

That the lords are supplied.

Twelfth, we gather from all parts

To practice martial arts.

Small boars we keep as board,

Large ones sent to the lord.

Fifth moon locusts sing;

Sixth moon, katydids wing.

Seventh, crickets neath leaves,

And eighth under my eaves,

Ninth moon, into my door ,

And tenth, neath my bed and seen nor more.

Rooms are smoked and mice killed,

Windows closed and chinks filled.

O wife and children dear,

It"s the end of the year,

Let"s bear the winter drear.

Sixth moon we eat plums and cherries,

Seventh, we have beans and berries.

Eighth moon we pick dates nice;

Tenth moon we harvest rice.

With these spring wine is brewed,

For a life long and good.

Seventh moon melons we gut,

Eighth moon bell gourds we cut.

Ninth, hemp we store in hut.

Of plants or trees the seed

Can us poor farmers feed.

Ninth moon threshing ground is made

Tenth, in store grains are laid.

Hemp, wheat, beans, corns, all grains,

Cold, heat, drought, floods and rains,

Alas, who knows our pains?

Harvest is hardly done;

To mend the palace we run.

By day congongrass is sought;

At night ropes made long and short.

In haste the roof we build;

Sowing will start afield.

Twelfth moon we cut ice to be stored;

First moon we send ice to the hoard.

Second moon we early rise

To lamb and leek sacrifice.

Ninth moon the sky is high;

Tenth moon leaves fall and dry.

Cup after cup we swill

And the small lamb we kill.

We enter the hall where

We raise ox-horn cups rare:

May the lord live for e"er!

Yellow Crane Tower

The sage on yellow crane was gone amid clouds white.

To what avail is Yellow Crane Tower left here?

Once gone, the yellow crane will not on earth alight;

Once white clouds still float in vain from year to year.

By sunlit river trees can be counted one by one;

On Parrot Islet sweet green grass grows fast and thick.

Where is my native land beyond the setting sun?

The mist-veiled waves of River Han makes me homesick.

Bring in the Wine

　　The waters of the Yellow River,

　　coming down from Heaven,
