The reading and the listening both focus on elephants behaviors. The passage mainly talks about the three beliefs about elephant behaviors. However, the lecture refutes the idea by saying that it is just misunderstanding.

To begin with, the passages states that elephants are aware of approaching death. In contrast, the professor in the lecture holds the opposite position that people cant indicate that by what they see. When they are old, their teeth are not strong as before, so it is difficult for them to chew. Thats why they will try to find softer vegetation. And the softer vegetation are always near water. As a result, they will graze to the water and die there but it doesnt mean that they aware of the death.

Moreover, the reading claims that elephants have artistic ability. Conversely, the lecturer challenges this point by saying they are just trained to paint. The ears of the elephants are ery sensitive, so the trainers always teach them tricks by touching their ears. The trainers will let the elephants to be aware of the paint brush, so they will get the sense and they will paint lines they have trained, and draw pictures like trees, flowers and animals. However, they dont really get what they are drawing.

Last but not least, the writer of the article puts forward the point that elephants are afraid of mice. Whereas the lecturer insists an opposite opinion that mice are just unfamiliar creatures to elephants, so they will feel nervous when they see the mice. It is natural instinct that they will avoid the creatures they dont know. In the zoo, fear of mice will not happen because they dont really mind about that.
