Ability? Capability?

Ability is more commonly used than capability, Ability is more about what a person can do, and Capability often refers to extremes of ability, what can possibly be done.

Another difference is that Capability tends to be Either-Or choice, while Ability is more about degrees. For example, you can say, "I have the ability to write, but I dont have the capability to write a novel".

PS: This column is inspired by one of my friends in WeChat Group, and I would like to invite you to join us in which you could practice with others about what youve learned/refreshed. Please add my WeChat ID ozmhsh and I can send you the invitation.
