when you are walking down the street, in a shop or at a party, how do you act when you

meet a perfect partner for you. Do you start to get nervous and shy, are you up

front and tell them you are interested or do you try to make casual

conversation? What if you couldn』t talk and had to find a perfect partner with

your body language. Maybe at a party doing a dance would be fine but it would

look strange in the streets or at the shops.

In all of history and cultures people have used dancing as a seductive way of finding a

mate, although we have evolved to find other traits more attractive. In the

animal kingdom dancing is still used to find a perfect mate. While dancing

rituals looks strange for us to witness and we see them as beautiful and

perfect, its only animals of the same species will be able to see the fault in

the dance.

Take the peacock for an example when they display the tail to the mate it is very large

and hide to miss, the tail feathers have many beautiful eyes and are full of

bright colours that anyone would love to watch the display, research on this displayhas

shown the peafowls that the peacocks are displaying to are not interested in

the bright colours and the many eyes, they are only interested in the base of

the tail.

There is one bird species that finds it perfect mate by dancing that we can observe

and when we do it makes an amazing sight to see, that is the dance of the

western grebes. The dance is so tricky that if the bird does not have the

ability to walk on water, the bird might as well give up because it won』t ever

find a mate. As these doing a move called rushing where the birds will sprint

across 20 meters for up to 2 to 7 seconds.

The dance starts off by the male providing the female with a fish, if the female

accepts the fish this means the female has acknowledged that the make is a goof

provider. While the male passes the fish, the beaks touch each other like in a

romantic movie. Once the fish has been taken the dance will start, they will

start by copying each other』smovements, until it looks like one of them are

next to a mirror, as soon as the dance starts to be in sync then they will

start the running on water. For the dance to be successful they both must run

on the water and land in the water at the same time.

This dance allows them to find out if they are a perfect match to each other, if

there was a test that would help you find the perfect mate would you take the

test or do you think it would take the away the experience people need in life

to grow into an adult.
