I think most importantly I started doing research when I was a junior in college

and in our school, we have a special program called undergraduate research opportunities

In one project, we try to look at the benefits of having additional physician assistants in the critical outreach team

Very different from any other experience Ive ever had

You prepare the course

and you always think that you are a good student, you know the content

but when you become a professor, you have to not only know what exactly the knowledge is

you also need to know what is the best way to teach

What is the most challenging part of being a PhD student? 做博士生哪方面最有挑戰性？

The most challenging part is that sometimes you tried many different methods, you tried many different ways

and you still couldnt figure out what is going on with the results

You cant make a consistent story out of what you have been observing

你沒法從你的觀察中找出一個一致的故事來

At this moment, you might keep telling yourself

"Oh, just keep trying one more time, doing one more analysis, and you will discover what is underlying truth"

so you need a lot of persistence and patience in research

Whats your advice to people who are thinking about pursuing PhD?

PhD is very hardcore and challenging from what Ive heard from many PhD students

Do you have any advice for people who are thinking about pursuing PhD?

If you want to do it, you get your hands dirty as early as possible to work on some real projects

because research is really something different from doing homework and get As in exams

Its related but it requires a slightly different set of skills

so you have to make sure that you really like it

PhDs spend all their time applying for grants and scholarships 博士生花很多時間在申請基金上

We dont need to do that

Mostly when youre graduate students, like a PhD, you are supported by school, or by your advisor

大多數時候，作為博士生，你的學校或導師會給你支持

probably because you are also lucky that you are in a good school, with a good professor, with sufficient funding

so you probably feel this?

but Ive heard that some PhD students in hardcore scientific project that spends a lot of time in lab
