中國已經多次向國際社會莊嚴承諾，中國將堅定不移走和平發展道路，永遠不稱霸，永遠不搞擴張。君子一言，駟馬難追。我們說話是算數的，實踐已經證明中國是說到做到的。

China has reaffirmed its solemn commitment to the international communitymany times that it will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful developmentand will never seek hegemony or expansion. To use a Chinese idiom,「A gentleman never goes back on his word.」 We mean what we say and what has happened shows that China has kept itsword.

盲人摸象

我常說，了解中國是要花一番功夫的，只看一兩個地方是不夠的。中國有960萬平方公里，56個民族，13億人口，了解中國要切忌「盲人摸象」。

I often say, it takes much effort to learn about China and it is notenough to just visit one or two places. China has 9.6 million square kilometersof land, 56 ethnic groups and 1.3 billion people. Thus, to get to know China,one should not make the mistake of the blind men who tried to learn about an elephant by touching it.

一年之計在於春

常言道，「一年之計在於春。」中俄雙方把握這美好的早春時節，為兩國關係和世界和平與發展辛勤耕耘。

As a popular Chinese saying goes, a good beginning made in spring will ensure success forthe whole year. China and Russia shouldseize the wonderful season to plough and hoe not only for our bilateral relationsbut also for peace and development in the world.

如履薄冰，如臨深淵

這樣一個大國，這樣多的人民，這麼複雜的國情，領導者要深入了解國情，了解人民所思所盼，要有「如履薄冰，如臨深淵」的自覺。

To govern such a big country with so many people and so complex nationalconditions, we, the leaders of China, need to be fully aware of Chinas realityand aspirations of the people. We should take our responsibilities very seriously as if we are walking onthin ice or standing on the edge of an abyss.

治大國如烹小鮮

要有「治大國如烹小鮮」的態度，絲毫不敢懈怠，絲毫不敢馬虎。

To quote a Chinese adage, "Governing a big country is as delicate as frying a small fish." We must never slacken our efforts or be negligent in the slightest way.

「眾人拾柴火焰高。」我們有一個既有分工又有協作的中央領導集體，有一套比較有效的工作機制，大家各負其責，共同把工作做好。

Many hands make light work. Within the central leadership team, we have an effective work mechanism. We each have our ownresponsibilities; at the same time, we work together in concert to ensure thatthe job gets done and done well.
