When we see something new or unfamiliar, sometimes we are hesitant to try it unless someone else tries it first. This can be a new type of food, sometimes you may ask a

friend what it tastes to see if they like it or let them eat it first to see if

they don』t die. This is a part of our survival, In the wild when we would come

across fruit or an animal we would wait till someone ate the food and see if

they would survive. if the person became sick or died they would make a mental

note to not eat this type of food and warn others not to eat it. this tactic

has allowed us to evolve to what we are now, while we have science and

understanding to know what is safe and what is dangerous, animals do not have

this ability and we will go over some of the big first steps animals must take.

The great migration

This migration is none stop all year around trip and is full of herbivore animals

such as wildebeests, zebras and antelope. While this is an amazing feat to see,

there is one part of the migration that will be a first for all the new animals

on this migration, that is the river they must cross. In this river, there is crocodileswaiting

to feed on the herbivores, and because the migration is done at the same time

all the crocodiles in the river know when it』s time to eat. The herbivore knows

something is wrong but they must cross this river or they will starve to death,

so they will all stay near the river bed and wait for the first mammals to have

the courage to jump into the river and swim to the other side. Once they see

that the first animals didn』t get attack they will all rush to the other side. Since

the crocodiles are smart enough to be at the part of river, I think they are

smart enough to realise that if they let the bravest mammal to make it to the

other side of the river the rest will follow and the crocodiles will be able to

eat the others faster. Because of the brave mammal crossing the river first

he/she would be able to survive long enough to breed which could pass on the

gene that will make the offspring can make the first step without waiting for

others.

Meerkats

While the great migration shown bravery, what if you』re the lowest member of the group

and was forced to swim across the crocodile infested waters to make sure it was

safe, this isn』t really bravery mainly because if you don』t do it you will be

cast out of the group where you will have a slow death or might get eaten. This

is how the meerkats deal with busy roads that are on their territory, a road

isn』t the same as a crocodile infested but it is as dangerous to meerkats. The

alpha meerkat will lead the group to the road but to make sure the road is

safe, they will force the smallest and weakest member of the group to cross

because if they die it』s not a big loss to the group. Once the weakest member

of the group makes it across the road the rest will follow, but unlike the

wildebeest this meerkat will have no breeding rights since it』s at the bottom

of the group and only the alphas have breeding rights.

Conclusion

Always take the first step, no matter how scary it maybe. There is nothing worse than wishing

you did something, this can be from telling someone you love them, going on holiday on your own or even starting a business. While trying something you may succeed and you might fail, but you will fail 100% of the time if you don』t take the first step.

動物大遷徙

大遷徙我們在一年四季中都可以看到，所涉及動物幾乎涵蓋了所有的食草動物，例如牛羚、斑馬和羚羊，整個過程浩浩蕩蕩不失為一種壯舉。在遷徙隊伍中有一小部分的成員作為先頭部隊，它們在遇到河流時就得率先通過，在這條河裡，鱷魚時刻等待著它們的大餐。由於遷徙是在一個時間段內完成的，所以河中所有的鱷魚都會同時出動，食草動物即使察覺異常情況，也只能追隨大部隊，否則等待它的只有死路一條。在過河之前，所有的動物都會先靜靜等待，如果第一隻動物跳入河中，且順利游至彼岸，那麼剩餘得就會義無反顧得躍入水中。鱷魚其實一直躲在河中的某處，狡猾的鱷魚絕對會讓那個「勇者」順利渡河，因為只有這樣，才會有大批的追隨者躍入河中以供他們獵殺。在大遷徙中，勇敢的個體生存下來了，使它的基因得以延續，當然它的子孫也會是那些在群體中率先採取行動的。

狐獴

剛剛我們在大規模遷徙中，發現了勇敢者得以生存，但如果你是成員中最弱的一個，也會有不得不率先過河的情況，這並不是真正的勇者，因為如果你不這樣做的話，你就會被團隊拋棄，那時面臨的就是自生自滅。這個就是狐獴所採取的策略，他們為了尋求新領地時，通常不得不穿過一些繁忙的馬路，領頭的狐獴帶領團隊穿過馬路之前，首先要確保馬路的安全，它們會讓最小且最弱的成員第一個過馬路，因為即使它死了，對於整個群體來說損失也不大。一旦那個最弱的成員順利通過，剩餘的就會緊隨其上。與牛羚不同的是，率先通過的並沒有優先交配權，因為它身處在成員等級的底端，只有領頭者才有交配權。

從以上兩個案例看，無論情況有多糟，只有率先採取行動才能得以生存。

沒有什麼比活在幻想中更糟，如果你沒有勇氣做一些大的改變的話，不妨從獨自開始一段旅遊，開啟一段新的事業開始。嘗試一些新的東西後，你可能會成功，你可能會失敗，但是如果你什麼也不做的話，那失敗的概率就是100%。
