First of all, can you tell us a little bit more about yourself

Why did you want to start you own fashion brand? 為什麼決定自己做時尚品牌？

I used to be an office lady, very typical OL in Hong Kong, working in consulting industry

我曾經在香港是一個非常典型的白領，在諮詢行業工作

In 2004, I moved to Shanghai for a job opportunity

2004年，我為了工作機會搬到了上海

and I got used to Swing Dance, which is a dance with Jazz music

我了解了搖擺舞，這是一種爵士樂舞蹈

I was so passionate about the dance and I learned dancing

and I want to really do something that I love, that I gave up before because of my work

so I want to do my own fashion brand on the shoes, and I now do fashion label for the dresses

Its amazing! How long have you had this fashion brand?

For the shoes, it has been 18 months; and for the fashion, its just 2 months

Why did you come up with this name Animal Jungle? 你為什麼想出Animal Jungle這個名字？

What does it mean to you?

它有什麼意思？

I organize social dance party, and I realize that

我組織跳舞派對，然後我意識到

The dancers, the people, they all come from different parts of the world or industry

跳舞的人們都來自世界各個地方、各個行業

and I feel like, well, we are actually living in an animal jungle

我覺得我們好像是生活在一個叢林中的動物

We play in the jungle; we make friends in the jungle

How did you get started with your fashion brand? 你怎麼開始創立自己的時尚品牌？

In my mind, since I was a kid, I always wanted to have my fashion brand also

我從小也一直希望能夠有我自己的時尚品牌

because I used to learn painting; I love arts

因為我以前學畫畫、喜歡藝術

but it always feels that you need a lot of money

但我總覺得要做到需要很多錢

you need a lot of resources to start your own brand

需要大量的資源來開始自己的品牌

Its like mission impossible

這是不可能完成的任務

so how did you start your own brand?

你是如何開始自己的品牌的？

I started really small

我從很小的開始做

and I started just as one of the consumers

我作為一個消費者出發

Like for the shoes, I need good leather shoes to dance

比方說做鞋，我需要好的皮鞋來跳舞

and I came to a shoe tanner who produces hand-made shoes

我找到了一個鞋皮匠，生產手工製作的鞋子

and I ordered from him

and I thought that "Well, actually I can do my own brand"

and I just talked with him and we work together with the collection of hand-made shoes

How do you manage the process of designing, producing, to selling? 你如何經營時尚品牌從設計到生產到銷售的整個工程？

So for a fashion brand, for clothing brand or shoe brand

對於一個時裝品牌，做服裝或是做皮鞋

you have to go through the step of designing the product, and then produce it, and then you also have to find a way to sell them

你必須要經過許多步驟，從設計產品，到製作，到找到銷售方法

Right now, its just me to manage the entire process

現在就是我自己來管理全過程

Because its really a very small startup

因為還在很小的創業階段

The amount of work is really huge

工作量確實非常大

and you have to manage everything

必須要管理一切

like sourcing the vendors for the material for the clothes

比如說，為衣服材料找到採購廠商

think about the design

想設計

and after the production, you have to think about how to sell more effectively

生產後，想如何更有效地銷售

and you need to work with different media or online photos

你需要用不同的媒體或網路平台

so its really a huge cycle

所以這真是一個巨大的周期

but its a complete new experience and exposure to me

但它對我來說是一個全新的體驗

that I would never experience in any other parts of the work

我永遠不會在其他工作中體驗到

So talking about sourcing

說到採購

You mentioned that you have to find different vendors and stuff

so how long does it take you usually to find the right material for your new design, and find the right vendor, and eventually produce it?

從為你的新設計找到合適的材料，到找到合適的供應商，再到最後生產，整個過程要多久？

I would say its quite quick; maybe within a month

還是挺快的，也許一個月吧

Now in China, the resource is really huge

現在在中國有很多資源

and you can contact a lot of suppliers

你可以聯繫許多供應商

but the problem is that you need to reach to the right partner

但問題是你要找到對的合作夥伴

whether he or she is a trust-worthy person

要確定是否是一個值得信賴的人

I also came across some ups and downs

我也遇到了一些坎坷

I met some people who are not very good, and I have to repeat the process again

我遇到一些人做得不太好，我就必須要再重複一次過程

What are the ups and downs with your shoe brand made In Lindy? 你的鞋子品牌made in Lindy有些什麼起起伏伏？

For the ups, I would say people love the design

好的地方是大家都熱愛我的設計

and also with very good feedback on the quality and style

還有對質量和款式很好的反饋

This is the new collection of made in Lindy shoes

這是made in Lindy的一款新鞋

You can see it is really beautiful

它很漂亮

Yeah, it is really beautiful and also very colorful

是的，很漂亮，也很鮮艷

and I bet it goes very well with the Animal Jungle clothes

我敢打賭，它和Animal Jungle的衣服非常配

Yeah, and the point is that it is so comfortable because it is leather

是啊，而且它很舒服，因為是皮的

so I dance every time (with these shoes) at the dance floor

所以我去跳舞都穿這鞋

and even I go out to meet friends, I can wear it

The problem is I dont have any retail stores

If I have a retail store or a booth at a department store

people can try and look at all the collections

If I could do this in some time in the future

We have online stores and we have orders from other parts of the world

and we ship to US, Europe, Asia

Whats the difference between running a clothing brand and a shoe brand? 做時裝品牌和鞋子品牌的區別在於哪裡？

Very different

Clothing is much more complicated, and more demanding and competitive

服裝要複雜得多，要求更多，競爭也更激烈

There are so many clothing brands, from high profession to premium brands

and the pricing, the style, the seasonality, so everything is so fast-paced environment

定價、款式、季節性，一切都節奏很快

so for clothing, its really very challenging

所以做服裝很有挑戰性

for shoes, there is less seasonality effect

unless it is sandals or winter boots

but for this kind of style, you can wear it throughout the year

so in terms of new product launch or the channels

所以在新產品推出或者渠道上

I would say shoes are relatively easier for me to handle

That makes sense

I actually feel your Animal Jungle is very unique

I dont feel that I have seen such colorful and passionate brand a lot on the market

市場上較少有那麼鮮艷、熱情四溢的品牌

so I hope you have a very unique position in this competitive market, and I wish you will do very well

In the top fashion brand industry hopefully

I think that is the dream of every designer
