別看書那麼快

Don』t read quickly.

Have you ever heard about someone read 100 books or even 300 books a year and you felt they were geniuses?

When I was a kid, I was jealous of those smart kids who claimed that they could read a lot of novels in a short period of time. I also tried to read as fast as possible but I failed every time. When I forced myself to go through a novel rapidly, I felt nervous and I couldnt understand the stories. I felt depressed and blamed myself for not being as good as other smart kids. Then, I gave up reading and went to do other things.

In the past several months, Ive spent a lot of time on reading and I enjoyed it very much. I didnt force myself to read very fast and I tried to make sure that I understood the main points of the books. I started to realize that reading is like traveling alone and it is stupid to compete with others on reading speed.

We are living in a fierce world where competitions are almost every where, but reading is not a competitive activity. Reading novels is a way to experience others』 lives, for example, you may follow a businessman to build his business empire, or become a swordsman to fight with others and survive in every duel.

I think many people who hate reading may have been fooled by the stupid speed reading tricks. They tried to read as fast as possible and failed, then, they felt that reading brought them nothing but anxiety. Reading is a very personal activity and it requires a peaceful state of mind. It brings us fresh air in such a suffocating world where competitions are everywhere.
