I have been an ESL teacher for nearly five years. I was an English trainer In New Oriental English training school. I have taught so many students and have students asked me all different kinds of questions, like how should i improve my spoken english? how should I memorise the new words ? Or how many words should i have in order to speak English fluently?

Well, how to improve my spoken English?

I think most of the English teacher will say that you have to keep using it . Pratices make perfect. Also watching English movies , Listening to English songs, reading English novels , all of these will benefit you a lot . Suppose that you can understand the movie without checking the subtitle of English or Chinese, and many people are in this peroid.But thats only the first stage , we called it input process which you will gain all kinds of information about English through watching, reading and listening.Then the next stage is output process which means that you have to start to speak and write. This is the tough part which most the English learner will struck here.Why is that? The reason is that you havent done the first stage properly. In another word, you are not ready to go through the speaking and writing parts yet.. So before you start to output, you should make sure that you have grasped enough words and you have a solid grammar foundation.

Then comes to the second question, how should i memorise the news words?

I guess there are no sure answers for this questions . As we all use different strategies to memorise things like facts , figures , events ect. It all depends on the contents and part of your personal habits. Some people use visualisation to memorise like associate certain things with particular words. While some people realize that memorizing by phonetic is also a very effective way . I am with the second type of people . When i am learning the news words, I will check the the phonetics first. Once i know how to pronounce the word, then its easy for me to memorise this word .Cause the spelling is very much related to the phonetic symbols.So what is the best way to memorise new words? You have to try to figure out what is the best way for you.
