近觀庭前花開花落

遠看天外雲捲雲舒

Watched closely, yard flowers bloom, but soon their petals fall;

Viewed from afar, clouds yonder scroll and then unfold.

(Good lucks, bad lucks, they come, they go---and that is all;

As the observer, I to nonchalance still hold.)

人生多磨礪 男兒當自強

Life is fraught with adversity to endure, but a man cannot gain a full manhood otherwise.

與松竹梅為友

For friends I have chosen pine trees, bamboo groves and plum flowers. Their friendship survives the coldest winter.

苦難是生活最好的老師。

Trials and tribulations are the best teacher life has to offer.

Viewed from afar, clouds yonder scroll and then unfold, not at all to perturb my calm.

去留無意，望天上雲捲雲舒。

Unfavored or in grace I watch with equanimity the yard flowers bloom and fall;

Intending neither to remain or leave I view the clouds as they unfold and scroll.
