我和安祝、點亮眼睛的故事的起因都是非常個人化的,未來這些仍然和人有關,那些我們想要用mantra品牌去啟發和影響的人,我想要去吸引顧客的方式和途徑。
Andrewand I met while volunteer teaching in a rural corner of Yunnan, the 29thpoorest province in China. Though the power wasn』t always on and the plumbingleft much to be desired, we found some of the most eager and excited studentsyou could imagine. But for many of our students, vision problems made learningalmost impossible. Although nearsightedness is easily treatable with glasses,most of our students did not have access to proper vision. We decided to dosomething about it, and so we started a program to provide free glasses and eyecare education to students in Yunnan province. From the moment when one of ourstudents got to see the world clearly for the first time, we knew we had foundsomething special – our passion.
安祝和我的第一次相遇是2010年,在參與雲南偏遠地區支教項目的時候,我們都是從美國剛畢業的大學生,共同作為項目志願老師,在這個中國排行第29位貧困的省份支教兩年的時間。雖然電力供應不是很好,生活設施也比較落後,我們依然遇到了一些你所能想像到的最熱切和最興奮的學生。但許多我們班上的學生,因為近視問題讓學習幾乎成了不可能的事情。雖然今天通過近視眼鏡,近視問題可以得到非常容易的解決。但我們的大多數學生沒有渠道獲得這樣的視力矯正。關於以上問題,我們決定做一些什麼,所以我們啟動了一個小項目,來為雲南地區的學生提供免費的眼鏡和視力健康教育。由此,我們的一位學生第一次可以有機會真正看清這個世界和黑板,從那一刻開始,我們知道,我們找到了一樣非常特別的東西——我們的熱情所在。
Providingcorrected vision for these low-income students in need became our mantra, andwe』ve been working at it non-stop ever since 2012. At first, we didn』t knowwhether or not it would work out. From Spring 2014, we went full-time on theproject, and since then we』ve been living in Beijing with no salaries andnothing but our fire and our friends to help us keep pushing forward. Butsometimes that』s enough, and we』re still standing. To date, we』ve donated over7,300 pairs of prescription eyewear to young students in Yunnan. It』s been alabor of love, full of victories, set-backs, friendship and hardship. We』velaughed, cried, shouted and cheered, but we』ve never regretted our choice tofollow this path. We were lucky to find our passion in those rural villages,something that makes us see the world in a new light and makes us jump to getout of bed in the morning.
為有需要的低收入學生提供視力矯正,成為了我們的mantra(信念、使命),我們從2012年全面開始投入這項工作,便沒有再停止過。最初,我們並不確定這樣的嘗試是否能奏效。期間, 2012年支教結束,安祝返回美國芝加哥工作,我在北京工作,但我們每天想的最多的,依然是如何維持和擴大點亮眼睛項目所能提供的幫助。安祝和我都認為那是我們生活的重心之一。從2014年春天,我們開始辭去各自的工作,全職為點亮眼睛項目工作,從那時開始我們一直生活在北京,但沒有工資和任何回報,除了我們的熱情和來自朋友們的幫助,這些一直推動著我們向前。但有時候這些就已經足夠了,我們依然在堅持。到今天為止,我們捐助了超過11,000副近視眼鏡給雲南地區的孩子。這一過程,包括了一份因愛而生的工作,無數次的勝利、挫折,友情和艱難歲月。我們曾大笑、大哭、大喊和歡慶,但我們從沒有後悔我們的選擇,選擇走上這樣一條小路。我們是非常幸運的,能夠在這些偏遠的村莊里找到屬於自己的熱情與信念,它可以讓我們通過新的眼光去看待這個世界,也是我們每天早上從床上一躍而起的動力。
Ourdesire to share that journey led us to found Mantra, a new kind of brandcentered that chooses to see the world not as it is, but as it could be. Peopleare striving not just to get by or to fit in, but to take a stand forsomething, to make a contribution to the world and to find fulfillment. We wantto share our personal journeys of discovery, and to share the cross-culturalmish-mash of East and West with the young people in China who are going toshape the future of this country and the world. It isn』t just children in ruralschools who are struggling. Professional and successful young people in Chinastruggle too – we all struggle to find our place, to find meaning amidst theceaseless pressure of competing, saving, and planning.
我們想要通過一個新的品牌來分享這個旅程,它讓我們找到了自己的Mantra(使命、信念),我們所聚焦的是選擇以這個世界可能的方式去看她,而不是以她現有的樣子。人們正在努力的不只是從這個世界裡獲取或僅僅融入其中,而是可以擁有自己的立場,為這個世界做出貢獻並實現自我價值。我們想要分享自己個人的探索之旅,分享這個跨文化,融合東西方背景的故事給更多的中國年輕人,他們正在塑造這個國家的未來,以及世界的未來。並非只有偏遠地區的學生在遭受困境。有專業資歷且相對成功的大城市中國年輕人也是,我們都掙扎著在尋找自己的位置,在連續不斷的競爭、生存、生涯規劃的壓力之下尋找意義。

Fromthe unique, hand-crafted design of our eyewear to the donation of glasses wemake for every pair sold, Mantra is about living a life of optimism, creativityand freedom in a world dominated by cynicism, repetition and conformity.
在mantra,我們挑戰和鼓勵我們的客戶找到屬於他們自己的mantra(使命、信念)。從一副設計獨特的墨鏡,到買一捐一模式,Mantra是關於帶著善念、樂觀、創意、自由和目標去生活,在這個充斥著評判、重複,不斷模板化的世界裡。
Andwe aren』t alone. We』re building more than a glasses brand and more than afashion brand. We』re building a community of individuals living life withpurpose, who choose to be the change they want to see in the world. Mantra isabout design, creation, empowerment, and cooperation.
同時,我們也不是孤獨的。我們正在建立一個社群希望連接起那些為自己的使命、目標而努力生活的人,他們選擇去創造自己希望看到的改變,為之不斷努力行動。
