脫歐公投——我們學幾個表達

背景：英國當地時間23號上午7點（北京時間23號下午2點），英國將就是否留在歐盟舉行全民公投。整個公投將持續15個小時，於倫敦當地時間23號晚10點結束。隨後開始計票工作，預計英國政府將於當時時間24號早晨公布這次公投的結果。

The UK is set to go to the polls（投票點） in a historic referendum（全民公投） on whether the country should remain a member of the European Union or leave.

the polls是什麼?

我們一般接觸的poll是指民意調查, 而這裡的the polls卻是指投票的地點, 注意區別.

什麼叫referendum呢?

當一個issue太過重要, 僅僅由議會投票或總統決定不夠的時候, 就可以搞一個全民公投, 讓每個人都對這個issue發表自己的觀點, 這就叫做referendum.

The referendum ballot paper（公投選票） asks the following question: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"

ballot paper是什麼呢?

ballot或者ballot paper是指你投票時的那張小紙條, 你在上邊打個勾勾, 就算投出你寶貴的一票啦~

It was declared by China over the weekend and immediately condemned as destabilising by the US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.

本周末中國做出宣布，美國國防部長恰克 ? 黑格立即表示譴責，稱這是在破壞穩定。

總結一下：

「脫歐公投」是一項提案，referendum；是指 「英國為了決定是否脫離歐盟而舉行的公民投票」，英文表達可以這麼說「the UK is set to decide on whether this country should remain a member of the European Union or not」.

而爭議雙方則分為「留歐派」 the Remain campaign和「脫歐派」 the Leave campaign，支持哪一方呢可以用「 be on the side of..」。什麼你問我是哪一方？
