Chinese Education: throes and tribulation in swaddling clothe

During almost five thousand years of recorded history, China had located in a top-tier class of civilization and contributed four great inventions to the world. However, since the reform of mass education, standardized exam has became the most significant section in school. Over time, as some modern pioneers warned, China may not great academic master any longer. Among them, "The question of Qian", which proposed by H.S. Tsien, is way thought-provoking. As far as I am concerned, this kind of anxiety should be attached importance seriously.

The most primary, as well as important problem, is the educational system. Once Chinese student has accepted nine-year compulsory education, their innate creativity are taken away from body. Besides,「based on scores alone」and 「985/211 mania」 also send young student into rote memorization rather than lateral thinking. Sometimes, even though they could encounter a new emerging field, they are required.

Correspondingly, when handful talents step into the society, the research achievements and positional titles restrained them tightly. What』s more, some 「kind」 gesticulation, which are from parents and friends, drive them choosing to be officials or businessmen rather than academic seekers eventually. As a result, academic work is regarded as the high-reputation but low-paid job.

In fact, I must clarify that China is not unable to educate the great master entirely but cannot detain. Why brain drain phenomenon become so normal? Men struggles upwards, and excellent people move to favorable environment. In U.S, the liberal academic surroundings attract them whereas the bureaucracy and institutionalization in China disperse them. I have no idea about whether Qian』s question could be answered and solved. But with the prosperity of motherland, I believe that our education could be closer to the international standards and students have more opportunities to achieve higher academic success
