朔風飄胡雁,

猛虎憑其威,
a. Tiger』s ferocious reputation comes from its intimidating presence,

往往遭急縛。
a. but often it is quickly roped.

雷吼徒咆哮,
a. Its thunderous howls are empty roars,
b. With a thunderous howl it roars in vain,
枝撐已在腳。
a. because its legs have already been strapped to stakes.
b. the wooden braces are already on its paws.
忽看皮寢處,
a. In abruptly looking at its pelt used as mattress cover,
b. All at once you look at its pelt spread as bedding,
無復睛閃爍。
a. their eyes have lost the twinkle.

人有甚於斯,
a. Humans could experience worse scenarios,
b. For people it is worse than this,
足以勸元惡。
a. and this is fair warning to leader of evildoers.

朝逢富家葬,
a. It is morning as I run across a funeral parade.
b. At dawn I met a rich man』s funeral cortege,
前後皆輝光。
a. From front to end the cavalcade is a display of grandeur.
b. from beginning to end, all splendid.
共指親戚大,
a. The public notices relatives are plentiful.
b. Everyone noted the magnitude of relatives,
緦麻百夫行。
a. A hundred of them in the procession are wearing hemp costumes.
b. a hundred fellows going in fine-threaded hemp.
送者各有死,
a. Each of the ones bidding farewell now will one day die.
b. Each of those accompanying will have his own death,
不須羨其強。
a. There is no need to envy the luxurious showing.

君看束縛去,
a. In watching the deceased』s departure inside wraps,
b. Look at him going off wrapped in cords,
亦得歸山岡。
a. he will end up buried in hill.
b. he too will get to go off to the hills.
