「讚賞」的三種譯法

一個星期沒有更新公號了，打開公眾號的平台後發現管理界面全變成英文的了（可能因為我電腦系統語言是英語的緣故）。看了一圈，覺得譯得還不錯，今天我們一起從中學點英文。

「閱讀數」用描述的方式譯成了"Numbers of times read"；「點贊」??是「thumbs-up」，這個表達非常形象、實用，常用搭配是give something the thumbs-up，表示「贊同」 「接受」。

讚賞的英文是「reward」，例如讚賞功能是「Reward」，讚賞設置是"reward settings"。不過微信官方還給出了其它兩個翻譯。例如：「接受用戶讚賞」並沒有被譯為「Accept rewards from users」，而是"Accept kudos from users"。

而在「文章讚賞須知」中，「讚賞」又被譯為了「bounties」。順便說，這裡的「無償行為」譯成了"artistic freedom and livelihood"??

微信官網把「讚賞」譯為了：reward, kudos, bounty，我們來學習一下這三個詞, 查查它們的英文釋義。

reward: 獎勵;獎賞；A reward is something that you are given, for example because you have behaved well, worked hard, or provided a service to the community.

kudos: 因行為或成就而獲得的榮譽，讚譽，名聲；Kudos is admiration or recognition that someone or something gets as a result of a particular action or achievement.

注意kudos這個詞本身是自帶s的，是不可數名詞。常用表達是kudos to...和上面說的give something the thumbs-up差不多。例如Kudos to Eric. Kudos to everyone who helped.

其中有一句是: Where are my kudos? 這其實是一個誤用，但也反映出許多母語人士會誤認為kudos是複數，自然的會用are而不是is。許多人會用many kudos，而不是much kudos。The New York Times還特意為這個詞寫過文章：

Bounty: 大量提供的東西；慷慨的贈予；You can refer to something that is provided in large amounts as bounty.

Bounty may mean generosity in general, or the gift given as a favour, a rather formal use: The land』s bounty passed all expectation.
