afford v.負擔得起（時間、錢）

常常與can/could/be able to連用，不用被動語態（no passive）。

afford money /time/ sth

afford to pay 能付得起

afford to buy 能夠買的起

2、a weak economy

in a weak voice

strong/weak tea 濃/淡茶

They are strong in English but weak in French.

look up 抬頭，仰視，查字典

與look有關的其他短語

lookdown upon sb 輕視某人

look round 環顧

look out 小心

look like 看起來像

look for 尋找

look-in n． 順便拜訪；（成功、勝利的）機會

get a look-in 有贏的希望

in a loud/ low / weak / strong voice

two others = two other ＋名詞

Give me two extra/other/more books.

1、as proud as a peacock 驕傲如孔雀， 極端驕傲

do a person proud 盛情款待某人，使某人受到隆重禮遇

in： formal正式的←→informal非正式的

accurate準確的←→inaccurate不準確的

im： moral道德的←→immoral(不道德的,邪惡的)

polite禮貌的←→impolite

ir： regular規律的←→irregular

responsible負責任的←→irresponsible

il： legal合法的←→illegal

logical符合邏輯的←→illogical

離開：be away + 一段時間 （表示不在這裡、離開的狀態，可延續的狀態） leave / set out / start+點時間（不可延續）

be與不同的副詞搭配，意思各不相同：

例：He will be away for two months． 他將離開兩個月。

Im going out now, Ill be back at six oclock．

我現在要出去，我將6點問來。

If anyone telephones, tell them Ill be out/in all morning.

要是有人打電話的話，告訴他們我一上午都不在（在）家。

I want to Teds house and asked to see him but he wasnt in.

我想去泰德家拜訪他，但是他不在家。

Why dont you forget about it？ 你為什麼不忘了它呢？

Its all over． 事情已經過去了。

Whats on at the local cinema this week？

這周在本地電影院演什麼電影呢？

(Be on表示上演，上映的狀態，what』s on ）

She is very ill. She cant start work yet; she is not up to it.

她病的很重，她還不能工作，她還不勝任。

（be up to表示勝任的意思）

be not up to 表示不勝任的意思

總結：be away, be back, be out/in, be over, be on, be up to

lesson 11 one good turn deserves another

1、promotion

He reserved a promotion.

Good work deserves good pays.

His words deserve attention.

You deserve it.=You are worthy of it.你應得的。／活該。

I dont deserve you.我配不上你。

I dont deserve that.不敢當。

2、工資 salary + wage rob the bank

When I worked as a waiter,the wages were low,but the tips were good.

right away =at once =immediately 立刻, 馬上

right now 現在
