白話譯文

天寶以後，農村寂寞荒涼，

家園裡只剩下蒿草蒺藜。

我的鄉里百餘戶人家，

因世道亂離都各奔東西。

活著的沒有消息，

死了的已化為塵土。

因為鄴城兵敗，

我回來尋找家鄉的舊路。

在村裡走了很久只見空巷，

日色無光，一片蕭條凄慘的景象。

只能面對著一隻只豎起毛來向我怒號的野鼠狐狸。

四鄰還剩些什麼人呢？

只有一兩個老寡婦。

宿鳥總是留戀著本枝，

我也同樣依戀故土，哪能辭鄉而去，且在此地棲宿。

正當春季，我扛起鋤頭下田，

到了天晚還忙著澆田。

縣吏知道我回來了，

又徵召我去練習軍中的騎鼓。

雖然在本州島服役，

家裡也沒什麼可帶。

近處去，我只有空身一人；

遠處去終究也會迷失。

家鄉既已一片空蕩，

遠近對我來說都是一樣。

永遠傷痛我長年生病的母親，

死了五年也沒有好好埋葬。

她生了我，卻得不到我的服侍，

母子二人終身忍受辛酸。

人活在世上卻無家可別，

這老百姓可怎麼當？
