不同程度/雙側器官/一個句子的翻譯

「不同程度」的通常譯法

「不同程度」常譯為varying degrees of，比 various degrees of 或者 different degrees of 更為常見，如：varying degrees of malnutrition。

「雙側器官」一定要表達成bilateral *** 嗎？

像雙側卵巢、雙（側）肺、雙（側）腎，很多同學一看到「雙側」就習慣性地使用bilateral 這個詞，其實用both更常見一些，如：both ovaries、both lungs、both kidneys。

從一個句子的翻譯來看中英文差別

肝細胞癌（HCC）的病因正在悄然發生變化，歐美髮達國家及部分亞洲國家非酒精性脂肪性肝病（NAFLD）相關HCC的發病率逐漸增加。

原譯為：

• The etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has changed silently, and the incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-related HCC is gradually increasing in developed countries in Europe and America and some countries in Asia.

上面這個譯文基本上是照著中文直接翻譯過來的，基本意思是對的，但有兩處可以改進：

1.中文裡不同分句之間的邏輯關係常常隱含在意思中，並不需要把連詞寫出來，咱們比較擅長意會。本例中，前後兩個分句的意思是相關的，僅僅用and連接這兩個分句，邏輯關係不夠明顯、緊湊，如果在英文里能用一些連詞（如：as）,會更加地道一些：

• As the etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has changed silently, the incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-related HCC is gradually increasing in developed countries in Europe and America and some countries in Asia.
• 同理，如果把英文譯成中文，反而可以把一些連詞去掉。不要一看到as就翻成「隨著。。。」，一看到when就翻成「當。。。的時候」。

2.對於「悄然發生變化」沒有必要把「悄然」翻出來，不管是不是「悄然」發生變化，總之就是變化了。尤其在論文中，我們只需要客觀地把事實闡述出來，而不用加上過多的修飾。

• As the etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has changed, the incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-related HCC is gradually increasing in developed countries in Europe and America and some countries in Asia.
