白話譯文
日暮時投宿石壕村,
夜裡有差役來強徵兵。
老翁越牆逃走,
老婦出門應付。
差役喊叫得是那樣兇狠,
老婦人啼哭得是那樣悲傷。
我聽到老婦上前說:
「我的三個兒子去參加鄴城之戰。
其中一個兒子捎信回來,
說另外兩個兒子剛剛戰死。
活著的人姑且活一天算一天,
死去的人就永遠不會復生了!
老婦我家裡再也沒有其他的人了,
只有個正在吃奶的小孫子。
因為有小孫子在,他母親還沒有離去,
但進進出出連一件完好的衣裳都沒有。
老婦雖然年老力衰,
但請允許我跟從你連夜趕回營去。
趕快到河陽去應徵,
還能夠為部隊準備早餐。」
夜深了,說話的聲音逐漸消失,
隱隱約約聽到低微斷續的哭泣聲。
天亮後我繼續趕路,
只能與返回家中的那個老翁告別。
