would是一個很難很難的詞, 我們往往說話的時候不會用這個詞, 別人用了這個詞, 往往不明白為什麼用這個詞.

大家熟悉的would用法是3個: will的過去式; 虛擬語氣; 禮貌

She said she would call me(這裡would做will的過去式)

If I were you, I would call him(這裡would表示虛擬語氣)

Would you like some coffee? (這裡would表示禮貌)

would的用法也折磨了我很久, 有一次我請教一個老外, 他說would往往是用於soften the tone.

這個用法我以前沒聽過, 但拿他這個說法去套, 我發現很多時候是能套的上的.

比如這一篇里would出現了多次, 你試著把它換成will讀一讀

This is the way you will learn a musical instrument. You will practice the basic piece, bla bla, then you will move on to...

讀出聲來, 多讀幾遍, 感受一下是不是有一種命令式的/強硬的/非常確信的語氣

再換回would讀幾遍, 讀出聲來, 體會一下, 是不是感覺語氣弱化柔和了一些, 不那麼presumptuous了, 也許有的人並不是從易到難地學習呢

如果拿這個去套的話, 我覺得之前的關於禮貌的用法, 甚至很多虛擬語氣的用法都可以套上來.
