雞年即將到來，聊聊和雞有關的英語短語和名人名言。肯德基有句著名的廣告語「We do chicken right」。網上有過關於這句廣告語中文翻譯的討論，很多譯文不乏幽默搞笑的成分：「我們做雞是對的」、「我們做正確的雞」』……

英語中用來表示雞的詞不少，chicken、cock、hen、rooster、chick……chicken泛指雞，小雞或雞肉，使用最廣泛。KFC就是Kentucky Fried Chicken（肯塔基州炸雞）。chicken還指膽小鬼、懦夫。chick是小雞、小鳥、少婦的意思，美國有個鄉村樂隊就叫Dixie Chicks（南方小雞）。cock和hen分別是公雞和母雞。一般應盡量避免使用cock表示「公雞」，因為它在英語口語里是個「粗話」。rooster可以指所有雄性家禽，美語指公雞。雞年一般寫作Year of the Rooster。
