Car = Freedom?

My counselor gave me some advice recently.

him: Congs on your new home! How do you feel?

me: Its nice to have a home, but I still have some worries... My husband suggested me be a realtor and our realtor said he wanted to hire me because he found sometimes I knew more about certain things than he does.

him: Do you wanna be a realtor?

me: I am intrigued. After college, I took all the realtor classes and joined real estate club to study more. And I have also talked to some people on the PE side to see if there are some opportunities.

him: If you were to take exam, do you think you will pass it?

me: Yes.

him: Thats a quick answer! Maybe you could be a realtor.

me: Nahh...I am definitely interested in helping myself find a home but not necessarily helping others. And I am not good at driving.

him: But it sounds like you are very interested and very confident that you could do a good job. Why not consider?

me: Anyone can be a realtor. A realtor doesnt need a good degree. I went to business school sand wanted to do something relevant not just a job anyone can do.

him: I have a friend who has earned his MBA and worked in corporate for a long time before switching to become a realtor. And he became very successful.

me: ...

him: What is the things that stop you from being a realtor?

me: Driving. I am not confident in driving and scared of driving.

him: Maybe you could consider to buy a car and take some driving lessons? The public transportation is good, but to go anywhere farther, you need to drive. After all, America is a country that you need a car to drive around.

me: I am not sure about owning a car. I have my husbands car to drive around.

him: Does he let you drive?

me: Yes, but he is worried about me so he doesnt let me drive when I am by myself. And when we are together, he likes to be behind the steering wheel.

him: How about having your own car? You can go anywhere you want without worrying about others. It gives you more freedom. I think it will help you with your depression. Even later you dont become a realtor, being good at driving will benefit you in your life.

me: ... I never thought about it. But it sounds like a good idea. I will think about it. But I am never a fan of owning a car....Thats because.. my dad would rather spend money in his car than support me going to college...I hated cars... I am not sure if I want to have a car.

him: Well... you can think about it and we could discuss more next time.
