To Be A Product Manager | Week 37
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Week 37 of
To Be A Product Manager
After the past couple very intense weeks, I finally have a so called 「chilling」 week. Some colleagues went out to other city for business meetings, and I』m staying in Shenzhen office following some product development and visual work, in the mean time, documenting the problems and planning for the future.
At the beginning of the week, I told myself to enjoy the time after work. People in SZ are crazy about over working, and sometimes you feel their days start at 7:00PM. I』ve never been home before 10:30PM since the National Holiday early this month, but don』t get me wrong, I usually work on my own project after dinner.
I try to be home before 9PM every day, and watched some movies at home. The Walking Dead is back, and also I found a great Spanish film called Contratiempo, which I would say the best I』ve seen this year.
The weather in SZ is also getting more comfortable, at least I can go to sleep without leaving AC on at night. And I started reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Galdwell.
What I accomplish
- demo app updates and planning
- website video, info and FAQs
- CMS product updating
What I』m pondering
2 things I want to share today:
1. Video
I』m thinking about recording a video called An Ordinary Day As A Product Manager, you may have seen a video on youtube a day in the life of a software engineer went viral.
Early this year, I』ve post a video called LIFE IS A DRUG on youtube, it』s similar idea, but I』m curious to see what I can come up with.
2. What to write
Coming to the 37th week of product journal, I start questioning myself does this still help me stay on track?
At the beginning of the project, I was writing every day to form a habit of documenting and reviewing what I』ve achieved during the day. Then I switched to weekly because I want to have more time doing stuff instead of writing, since I will review myself every day.
But now, it comes to a point where I think this weekly journal is not providing me enough value, and people want to more work related content, which I won』t be able to share that much here.
So maybe changing topics to what I』m learning and doing every week, in order to help myself document the process of becoming a better guy, not just a product manager.
My name is Zake Zhang, a VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I write weekly product journal and reflection.
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
