To Be A Product Manager | Day 69
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Day 69 of
To Be A Product Manager
It』s almost 10:30PM today. First day after a 3-day national holiday, for me it』s a 5-day holiday. I went to Beijing for the GMIC (Globe Mobile Internet Conference) and met some friends as well.
I was super excited to get back to work today, but the problem is it』s never going to be easy. Monday is always one of the most intense day of the week, since many meetings are going to take up a lot of your time, you barely have much time left focus on the work.
And I』m pretty sure this whole month is going to be very busy and occupied. I can』t wait to see how I manage to tackle all the problems and improve my product skills and sense. ??
Goals
- Website updating document
- point grey camera test setup
- black magic camera test setup
- monthly review meeting, last sprint sync up
I try to make a quick sticky notes for tomorrow before I left the office, only to find out there』re so many tasks that I cannot even put them on one page…
Challenges
1. Quantity is a challenge
As we launched the VR H5 video player, and our new website next week, these 2 projects have already brought me so many bugs and problems, let alone I』m testing and setting up environment for VR live streaming test.
These tasks together are not hard or very challenging for me to manage, but the quantity is the problem. In order to reach the product expectation, it seems like there are endless tasks need to be done.
2. Product development process, I lose control for the products
Our product team has published a product development spreadsheet, which includes every stage of a product, who should be responsible for each stage and what meetings should be organized at certain key point.
However, on execution level, we are not doing a good job. For example, today test engineer start testing website before I confirm the product has achieved the features; meanwhile, I found there are 2 versions of copywriting for the website, and I』m confused about which one is the latest.??
As a product manager, I lose control for my product, and let other easily modified the things I』ve already published and confirmed with others. This is a big lesson for me today, and I won』t let this happen ever again.
My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
