To Be A Product Manager | Week 38
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Week 38 of
To Be A Product Manager
Today is rare for me, it』s Friday but I feel pumped and excited after every intense week. Probably because we had a monthly product meeting this morning.
Although what we』ve achieved during the past month is not ideal, but everybody is getting better at what they do. We have a lot of cross-team communication during the website development, and I feel our relationship is also getting tighter.
For me, last week my mentor went to Beijing for meetings, so I made decisions myself most of the time in office. As I said, starting from September, I』ve taken the responsibilities for all the product lines. And now I』m confident to make decisions and also plans for future steps.
What I accomplish
- website updates and test
- demo app updates and test
- video encoding comparison
What I』m pondering
When I』m writing this weekly journal, I realized I forgot to make the video I mentioned last week, An Ordinary Day As A Product Manager. I will post it here next week no matter what.
As I think deeper about why I』m getting a lot of motivation today, it mainly comes from 3 ways:
1. 「Are you proud of any of these products you make in the past 10 months?」
This is from our CPO, at the end of today』s meeting, she asked me if I』m proud of any products I made. For a time being, I didn』t answer.
There really aren』t any products I』m proud of and I also don』t know how to answer it.
But now it becomes my biggest motivation for November. She also said she will send me for business meetings later, so I feel like I will be 100% confident to talk with potential partners only if I』m proud of the product myself. And order to do that, we have to leverage our product to a higher level.
2. 「Oh nice, I don』t need to be in office.」
This is from my mentor, he just got back from Beijing this morning, and surprised by what we』ve achieved and what product plans I』ve made.
3. 「Some people are not trusted, but I do believe what Zake has promised us…」
This is also from our CPO. I』m interested in VR development, so this time I have a chance to challenge myself to do product as well as development for our GearVR demo.
It』s gonna be not that easy for me, but it should also be fun.
My name is Zake Zhang, a VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I write weekly product journal and reflection.
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
