FOIA@UIUC：擁抱信息自由

前言：大學 & 信息自由法：University & Freedom of Information Act - 祇園 - 知乎專欄

在 http://easy-a.net (Get As | Easy A) 的小夥伴們在去年3月向 UIUC 發起 FOIA，要求GPA 和成績數據之後，時間已經過去一年了。這一年裡我有部分跟進到底發生了什麼，也參與了對 UCLA 等 UC 學校的 FOIA，迎來了各種各樣的結果。（詳情參見：FOIA: UC 系回復總結 - 祇園 - 知乎專欄）

這幾天驚訝的在學校 Reddit 上看到一個好玩的東西——UIUC 把去年 FOIA 回應數據開了一門課，CS 205: Data Driven Discovery (Spring 2016)。這門課是針對非 CS 專業的學生的 Project Based。總之看了課程主頁我吃了一驚，竟然在丟給學生 d3 之類的讓他們自己玩（。。）。

關於這個作品的 Introduction，我放在文末。

希望越來越多的公立學校能夠公開信息，設立這樣的課程。讓學生研究自己學校 FOIA 出來的數據，即使是非 CS 專業的也以 project 為主。

另外，CMU、MIT 等學校如果願意公布就好了……

Introduction

In March 2015, the University of Illinois responded to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA #15-173) request for "the grade distributions by percent and letter grade, for every class/instructor for the last five years at the University of Illinois". A total of 1,070 pages were released, containing the breakdown of GPA for nearly every course at The University of Illinois.
CS 205: Data Driven Discovery is a project-based course offered to non-CS majors by the department of Computer Science. As the first project, teams of students explored this dataset. The page is the result of the work of one team of students work on this GPA dataset.
