第7期:TED研讀(The single biggest reason why startups succeed[下])

Part 1:
1. Now, this isnt absolutely definitive, its not to say that the idea isnt important, but it very much surprised me that the idea wasnt the most important thing.
definitive: final; not able to be changed
e.g.: The definitive version of the text is ready to be published.
R
Will letter be replaced by email?
Well, letter played a very vital role in the past centuries. Now, it isnt absolutely definitive, its not to say that the letter isnt important. But email is overwhelming in the timeliness and effectiveness of communication. I think there is a trend that letter to be replaced by email or various instant messengers.
2. And funding, I think as well, if youre underfunded at first but youre gaining traction, especially in todays age, its very, very easy to get intense funding.
gain traction: 字面意思是獲得牽引力,此處指越來越受歡迎,become more and more popular)
e.g.: The idea of becoming an entrepreneur is gaining traction among the youth in China.

Will letter be replaced by email?
Well, letter played a very vital role in the past centuries. Now, it isnt absolutely definitive, its not to say that the letter isnt important. But email is overwhelming in the timeliness and effectiveness of communication. You know, I mean it is gaining traction among the young generation in my country. I think there is a trend that letter to be replaced by email or various instant messengers.
3. It was too hard to watch video content online, you had to put codecs in your browser and do all this stuff, and the company eventually went out of business in 2003.
go out of business: stop operating as a business because there is no more money or work available
e.g.: Some travel companies will probably go out of business this summer.
· go down
· close down
· shut sth. down
· go bankrupt
· go into liquidation
4. As I said earlier, I think startups can change the world and make the world a better place. I hope some of these insights can maybe help you have a slightly higher success ratio, and thus make something great come to the world that wouldnt have happened otherwise.
insight: an understanding of what something is like 洞察力、對…
固定搭配:insight into sth.
e.g.: The book gives us fascinating insights into life in western countries.

What factors lead a small business to success?
Well, it is really a hard question to me as I am an uni student and don』t have much social experience, and any insights about running a business. But if I have to answer this question, I』d hazard a guess there are two vital factors account the most for a successful small business. The first one is business model. We』d make sure the company have a very clear path generating customer revenues. The second and the most important one is timing, a business can be incredible success and gain traction if it is perfectly timed; otherwise, poor timing of entering into the market always drives the startup out of business. Anyway, there are still other factors, which aren』t absolutely definitive. But these two mattered the most to the business success.
