To Be A Product Manager | Day 88
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Day 88 of
To Be A Product Manager
Today is the last day before the traditional Chinese holiday, Dragon Boat Festival, which should be a time for family reunion. But I didn』t plan to go back visit my parents even I really want to, due to the traffic issue, I might just be caught on road longer than the time I spend with my parents.
BUT… I flipped a coin just now, it said I should be home this time. So I booked the tickets without any hesitation. Gotta be home tomorrow!
As I said, I don』t have really important tasks this week. I keep tracking some projects, and doing some preparation for later test and marketing strategy.
Goals
- Marketing strategy meeting
- Monthly all hands on deck
- VR content standard discussion
What I Learn
I got a response from my mentor in Boulder. Based on my current situations and confusions, I asked him 3 questions:
1. How much work/achievement can make you a perfect workday?
2. How do you value yourself or your business to make sure you are improving every day?
3. Is it appropriate to talk to my boss, explaining what my passion is and asking for more challenging tasks?
He suggests me to try not to worry too much about every day, but focus on long term basis. Ask yourself,
What is the perfect work week, or quarter?
Can I put anything new on my resume or pick up new skills?
Pushing yourself intensely everyday will just put me falling into a funk, and not leading to a point of recognition and some milestone.
And before you look for more challenging tasks, make sure you take current things from 100% to 120%, and focus on how to create more throughput while still working within the confines of your current role.
My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
