給法律人推薦的劇集－ALLY MCBEAL

這是一部關於法律人生活的劇集，又譯《甜心俏佳人》。剛剛看完第五季大結局。劇中的案件都很精彩，大部分是關於愛情、家庭、人性方面的民事案件。學法律的人可以學到很多專業術語和西方的訴訟程序，比如depostion/cross-examination等等。個人覺得尤為精彩的是許多案件的closing argument。

相對而言，第一季比較精彩，後來幾季稍顯冗長拖沓，可惜的是第五季匆忙結束，Ally經過無數的愛情考驗之後，最後仍然過著單身的生活，沒有一個好結局。看來，對於金領女律師來說，愛情與事業要兼得頗為不易。

Intro

Ally McBeal is about a 28-year-old Ally McBeal, fresh out of Harvard Law School. Ally is harrassed at the firm where she works. When she tells the firms partners, she ends up losing her job. She runs into an old friend and he offers her a job at his new firm.

Brief History:

Once the darling of the network, rumors of anorexia plagued star Calista Flockhart. The second and third seasons introduced more and more eccentric characters who were given nothing to do, and original series regulars Gil Bellows ("The Agency") and Courtney Thorne-Smith ("According to Jim") both left to pursue other projects.

"Ally" was revitalized in its fourth season with the addition of Robert Downey Jr. as the lead characters love interest, Larry Paul. However, Downeys personal problems and numerous arrests, eventually wore out Kelleys patience and he was dropped.

Lisa Nicole Carson, who played Allys roommate, also left at the end of the fourth season following a brief stint in an institution and admitted problems with substance abuse.

Without Downey, this season has floundered more than ever; bringing in Jon Bon Jovi as a love interest, and giving Ally a daughter havent helped. Lucy Liu dropped to a recurring role, while James LeGros left. James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson were added to the cast, only to be dropped a few weeks later. David E. Kelley decided then to cancel the show instead of having Fox executives do it for him.

Plot Summary:

Ally McBeal and Billy Thomas were going steady throughout their childhoods. Ally even followed Billy to Harvard law school despite having no interest in law. But when Billy chose to pursue a career in law away from Ally, their relationship came to an end. In the present, an old classmate of Allys named Richard Fish gives Ally a job at his law firm, where Billy and his new wife are also working. This puts Ally in a predicament since she still has feelings for Billy which shes laboring to get over. At the office, Ally puts up with a nosy, gossiping secretary named Elaine, and an oddball lawyer named John Cage never seems to lose a case. At home, Allys friend and house-mate Renée regularly advises her on her love life. The series follows Allys trials and tribulations in life through her eyes, and caricaturizes her personal thoughts and fantasies.
